Germany vs Spain - Match Preview

After a long break, international matches are on our radar. On Thursday at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart Germany will host Spain for the new 2020/2021 Nations League campaign.

Germany VS Spain - Betting Preview

When German national coach Joachim Löw has nominated the squad for the upcoming matches against Spain in Stuttgart and Switzerland in Basel it was clear that this team is far from the best at this moment. Löw will be without Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Serge Gnabry from FC Bayern and Lukas Klostermann and Marcel Halstenberg from Leipzig because their involvement in the final stage of the UCL.

That also means a big chance for the players that got their first call up, goalkeeper Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim, left-back Robin Gosens from Atalanta Bergamo, and midfielder Florian Neuhaus from Borussia Mönchengladbach who will try to replace absentees. It is very hard to predict anything after almost ten months without matches and training camps but in recent times Germany didn't have great results on the highest level. Die Mannschaft was out in the 2018 World Cup just after the group stage of the competition but they continued to work under the same coach Joachim Low. His assistant in the national team for several years Hansi Flick won all trophies with Bayern in the last season so some of his work is certainly implemented in the success of the Bavarian team and this could be a start of the new great era for the Germans.

Their record in the inaugural UEFA Nations League wasn’t good and that was a reflection of the crisis after WC and in four matches with France and Netherlands, they managed just two draws and two defeats and finished bottom of the group. It will be interesting to see Leroy Sane ex-Man City and now Bayern player on the pitch after a long time.

After a long break because of personal issues Spain national coach Luis Enrique managed to send a strong message to the fans, his squad is full of the young talented footballers with potential that will develop and last long on the highest level. Enrique said to the media that this group is the best at this moment and would play in the EURO 2020 if that tournament wasn’t postponed. Enrique changed roster significantly in comparison to his ex-assistant and caretaker Roberto Moreno who was at the helm during his absence.

For the matches vs Germany and Ukraine, he made room for Unai Simón in goal, Eric García and Reguilón in defense, Mikel Merino and Óscar Rodríguez in midfield and Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres upfront. He still has faith in De Gea and Kepa who were out of form for Man Utd and Chelsea in the last season but Unai Simón from the Athletic Bilbao will have a chance to debut in place of Pau Lopez, the Roma goalkeeper who finished this season in good shape.

The big news is coming from defense departure where Eric García, the Manchester City center-back who played the quarterfinals of the Champions League against Lyon is a fresh face. He continues to believe in veterans Sergio Ramos, Carvajal, and Jesús Navas, as well as talents Pau Torres, Diego Llorente and on the left side Gayá joins Reguilón instead of Jordi Alba. Óscar Rodríguez, the Real Madrid youngster who has had a great season at Leganés is a surprise as well as a call for Sociedad’s Mikel Merino. The rest of the group of the defensive midfielders is well known, Busquets, Thiago, and Rodri. Dani Olmo from Leipzig and Fabián Ruiz from Napoli will have more creative and attacking roles. Isco, Saul, Dani Ceballos, and Parejo are notable cuts.

In the attack, Enrique counts on the speed, Ferran Torres, the new City player, Barcelona's Ansu Fati, and Wolverhampton striker Adama Traoré will try to make havoc in rivals defenses. Valencia player Rodrigo who is linked heavily with Leeds, Oyarzabal from Real Sociedad, and Asensio from Real Madrid have more experience and could be helpful to youngsters in the first days in the national team.

Daniel Garcia

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
