PSG will continue to ride on a good momentum after three wins in Ligue 1 when they welcome Angers at their Parc des Princes on Friday evening.
Les Parisiens have been improving their game week by week, but they need to keep on winning if they are to climb to the top position in the standings. The titleholders are eyeing their fourth consecutive win in the Ligue 1, Sunday's win was Paris Saint-Germain's third without conceding a goal. The last time Les Rouge et Bleu managed such a feat was in the 2019-20 season (4-0 vs Toulouse, 2-0 vs Metz, 1-0 vs Strasbourg, and 1-0 vs Lyon). It was a four-match run that ended against… Reims (0-2, 25 September 2019). Paris Saint-Germain forward Mauro Icardi netted his second Ligue 1 brace after scoring twice in the 4-0 win over Marseille on 27 October 2019 at the Parc des Princes. Kylian Mbappé set up both goals - the third time he has provided two assists in a single Ligue 1 match after doing likewise for Monaco vs Lille on 14 May 2017 and for Paris vs Rennes on 16 December 2017.
Coach Thomas Tuchel felt strongly that, considering their dominance, his side should have done better.
"I'm not very happy. This game should have been over after 20 minutes. Angers continue with their habit of impressing at home while struggling on the travels. After a "disastrous" start, in the words of coach Moulin, pointing in particular to the penalty conceded, Angers SCO was able to find, thanks to decisive saves by goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni the resources necessary to win against Brest 3-2 during week 5 of the Ligue 1. Everything had started badly, the penalty was given to the visitors and Steve Mounié had taken off Bernardoni on the wrong foot in the 4th minute. Despite the opener, Brest continued to attack and be dangerous: in the 15' Charbonnier was close to scoring the second but his header hit the bar. Angers equalized a few minutes later, Aït Nouri found Sada Thioub in the heart of the box, who executed and left no chance for Larsonneur for 1-1. Gaëtan Charbonnier, well served by Le Douaron, was guilty of the second lead of Brest in the 32’ and Paul Bernardoni at the final moments of the first period put out a half volley at close range from Mounié.
Angers struggled to secure clear chances and Paul Bernardoni was called on again in 61’. Ismaël Traoré scored from a corner from Pierrick Capelle and equalized with an acrobatic effort in 77’. Three minutes later, it's Fulgini who completes the turnaround, with an ideal assist from Loïs Diony. In the end, tough but nice 3-2 victory for the nine points of the campaign, the same amount as PSG after five rounds but they not defeated Paris Saint-Germain in over a decade.
