European Championship Qualifying Path A Play-off Semi-final will be played at Laugardalsvollur Stadium on Thursday 8th October.
Iceland and Romania face each other in Reykjavik in the European Championship playoffs semi-final. Iceland made a slow start to their UEFA Nations League campaign, with the team suffering back-to-back losses to England (0-1) and Belgium (1-5). The hosts are low on confidence ahead of the visit of Romania, but they should never be written off just yet. The Romanians, on the other hand, aim to build on the UEFA Nations League win over Austria.
The Tricolori look sharp in front of the goal, and given Iceland’s attacking potential, we believe that there is a big value in betting on both teams to score. Both of these teams will fancy their chances of reaching the finals of the Euros next year, and this should be a hard-fought encounter.
Iceland are no longer the inspired force that captivated the 2016 Euros, but nonetheless, they are never easy to beat, especially on their own turf. They managed to keep England quiet for 90 minutes in their opening Nations League game, losing only to a last-minute penalty, and then missing one themselves. Worse was to come three days later when rampant Belgium tore them apart in an emphatic 5-1 scoreline.
Romania had a great chance of reaching the Euros automatically until the last two qualifying games that saw them lose 2-0 to Sweden before a 5-0 hammering at the hands of Spain. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Northern Ireland in their opening Nations League game, but then looked much more effective away from home, earning a surprising 3-2 win in Austria.
