CLOSELY FOUGHT CONTEST TO BE PLAYED OUT AT THE WESTON HOMES STADIUM
Peterborough's summer optimism seems to be rapidly dwindling after just one week of the new season. Darren Ferguson's side were hammered on the opening day by this season's dark horses Luton before losing at home against Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. Despite major pre-season worries, Derby gave a positive account of themselves on the opening day as they were held to a goalless draw by a Huddersfield side who are also set for a season battling relegation. Wayne Rooney will hope to keep this momentum going against a Peterborough side who were hammered in their first league game of the season.
FERGUSON URGES THE ’POSH’ TO TOUGHEN UP
Newly promoted as League One runners-up, Peterborough received a hostile welcome to the Championship as they were hammered 3-0 by Luton in their season opener, and then thrashed 4-0 here by lower-league Plymouth in the Carabao Cup in midweek. Their new recruits will have to help the squad adapt fast in order to avoid an emulation of the last season that the ‘Posh’ played in the Championship where they lost their first seven games en-route to relegation.
Promoted as League One runners up last season, the Posh were known for their attacking prowess scoring 83 goals in their 46 league matches, more than any other side in the division. With Jonson Clarke-Harris, who was the league's top goalscorer with 31 strikes to his name, leading the line once again this season, Darren Ferguson will be hoping that he and the other attacking players around their central striker can find their form quickly in front of goal.
RAMS HOPE TO KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING
Wayne Rooney wants Derby to build on the good moments that have been on display in their opening two matches of the 2021/22 season this weekend. Rooney’s side began the league season with a 1-1 draw at home to Huddersfield last Saturday, before recording a victory over Salford in Round One of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. The cup success came after a thrilling 3-3 draw in normal time under the Pride Park Stadium floodlight as Derby came from 2-0 and 3-2 down to win 5-3 on penalties.
Still building a squad under difficult circumstances, Wayne Rooney can hope that Derby will add positively to a reasonably strong record across their previous 11 away league campaign openers (W5, D3, L3). However, the ‘Rams’ are winless in their last nine road games (D1, L8), ending the 2020/21 season as their league’s joint-lowest away scorers. They averaged a paltry 0.7 goals per trip and this further fuels expectations that Derby could record a third consecutive away defeat at Peterborough.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city.
