Aston Villa host Brentford at the Villa Park (Birmingham) in the 3rd Round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 28. Read our reasons for Aston Villa vs Brentford prediction and betting tips.
ASTON VILLA VS BRENTFORD: STATS & FACTS
Aston Villa have never lost a top-flight match against Brentford, with this the first such meeting between the sides since February 1947 (Brentford 0-2 Aston Villa). On the other hand, Brentford are unbeaten in their last six league meetings with Aston Villa (W3, D3, all in the Championship between 2016-2019). However, all three games at Villa Park in that run finished level, with the Bees never winning away against the Villans in all competitions. Players to keep an eye on are Aston Villa’s Emiliano Buendía, who has a knack of scoring against the Bees and Danny Ings after finding the net against Watford and Newcastle. On the other hand, Sergi Canós made the most combined tackles and interceptions of any Premier League player on MD1 and scored the opening goal for Brentford against Arsenal while Ivan Toney is always a threat.
ASTON VILLA VS BRENTFORD: PRE-MATCH TALK
A sell-out crowd at Villa Park for the first time in 18 months saw the new £25 million striker Danny Ings become only the fourth player in claret and blue to score in both of his first two Premier League appearances. Also, Ashley Young’s display at left-back, on his second home debut, will give last season’s ever-present Matt Targett a challenge to get back in the starting XI, while local lad Jacob Ramsey continues to impress in midfield. With Ollie Watkins and Leon Bailey to return from injury and record signing Emi Buendia not quite yet hitting the form, Villa’s season is off and running, with the promise of going up a few more gears in the weeks to come.
Meanwhile, Brentford's promising start to their first Premier League season continued with a draw at Crystal Palace. Three teams may have won promotion, but Brentford seem, at least on current form, to be the more likely to survive. Although I'm still not totally convinced. At the moment the west London club are playing on euphoria, but that alone will not save them. They will need goals and lots of them. So far they have only played a dismal Arsenal and a very ordinary Palace side. Thomas Frank will hope for a greater attacking threat as the weeks progress, but four points and two clean sheets are a wonderful platform to build on for the rest of the season.
ASTON VILLA VS BRENTFORD: TEAM NEWS
Aston Villa travel to League Two Barrow in the second round of the Carabao Cup in midweek and Dean Smith plans to give much of the first team a rest. Ollie Watkins remains a doubt (knee) and Bertrand Traore is out. However, the summer signing Leon Bailey could start after a hamstring issue kept him out at the weekend. Jacob Ramsey – a half-time substitute at Vicarage Road and a starter against Newcastle might start in midfield again, while Douglas Luiz will be also included despite only recently returning from the Olympics.
Brentford host League Two side Forest Green Rovers in the Carabao Cup second round on Tuesday and star players will get some rest. Nonetheless, the Bees are expected to field an unchanged XI from their opening home victory against Arsenal and a draw at Selhurst Park. There will be one change on the bench, though, with goalkeeper Alvaro Fernandez, who joined on loan from Huesca in midweek, replacing Patrik Gunnarsson.

The Bees have been impressive at the back on their return to the English top-flight, with the team eyeing their third consecutive clean sheet of the process. Since Aston Villa looked solid at the back in the 2-0 win over Newcastle as well, under 2.5 goals option is what we consider for our BettingKick’s Aston Vila vs Brentford prediction.
