Birmingham host Fulham at St. Andrew's Stadium (Birmingham) in the 7th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Wednesday, September 15. Read our reasons for Birmingham vs Fulham prediction and betting tips.
BIRMINGHAM VS FULHAM: STATS & FACTS
Play-off hopefuls Birmingham continued their solid start to the season with a 2-0 home victory over troubled Derby last time out. In fact, this is now their joint-strongest start to a league campaign since 2016/17, whilst that fourth clean sheet has proudly given them the current tag of best defensive record in the division. With Birmingham’s direct and physical style of play, they’ve become an opponent the more fancied teams don’t generally enjoy facing. Meanwhile, a surprise 1-0 away setback for Fulham at the weekend, against what was beforehand a winless Blackpool, has put a dampener on what was previously a fine start to the season for the Londoners. It was their first loss of the Marco Silva era in any competition, and with any defeat at this level heavily scrutinised for a team expected to win the league, they’ll be expected to resume winning ways at the first attempt.
BIRMINGHAM VS FULHAM: PRE-MATCH TALK
The Blues have carried on where they left off last season at the beginning of the campaign, playing some exciting football and remaining very dangerous from crosses and set pieces. Three wins, two draws and one loss from the opening six represents a solid beginning. Goals from Scott Hogan and Jeremie Bela saw Lee Bowyer’s side end the weekend in seventh position in the league, and with the return of Troy Deeney to his boyhood club, the mood around St. Andrews is one of jubilation right now. Their win at Derby on Friday night wasn’t the most convincing, but three points leave them on the cusp of the top six, which is a great platform for Lee Bowyer to build upon.
As for Fulham, the Cottagers topped the table going into the international break, but the dreaded ‘Manager of the Month curse’ seemingly struck Marco Silva as his side were defeated 1-0 by lowly Blackpool. It was an unexpected result for Fulham, and they lacked a cutting edge without talented youngster Fabio Carvalho. It was three away wins in a row for the ‘Cottagers’ in all competitions prior to last weekend, and one of those was a League Cup triumph against Birmingham, although both fielded much-changed teams. Fulham developed a losing habit last season when suffering relegation, and now need to prove they won’t fall into those habits once more starting here.
BIRMINGHAM VS FULHAM: TEAM NEWS
Birmingham boss Gary Bowyer could hand a full debut to boyhood fan Troy Deeney who appeared from the bench against Derby on Friday night. Goalkeeper Neil Etheridge remains the home side's only confirmed absentee heading into Matchday seven. After his 22-minute cameo against Derby, Deeney is in line to make his first Birmingham start on Wednesday night. Jutkiewicz could drop out of the starting lineup in what will likely be the only change.
In sharp contrast, Marco Silva is likely to shake up his Fulham XI. Fulham manager could hand a debut to former Watford midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah in midweek, while Neeskens Kebano may be recalled in front of him. Harry Wilson suffered an injury while playing for Wales in the international break and will miss the trip to the Midlands while Fabio Carvalho is nursing a knock that he suffered prior to the international break.

Both of these clubs have differing levels of momentum going into Wednesday night – Birmingham are riding on the crest of a wave whilst Fulham will be feeling the after-effects of a surprise loss. If Troy Deeney is thrown in for his first Birmingham start then it will blow the roof off St. Andrew’s and the fans will be well and truly behind their team from the get-go.
