Brighton host Watford at The Amex Stadium (Brighton) in the 2nd round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 5.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 21. Read our reasons for Brighton vs Watford prediction and betting tips.
THREE POINTS CAN GO BOTH WAYS
The Seagulls came from behind to beat Burnley on the road in their opener, with the team showing character in the second half. They made a winning start to their Premier League campaign with late goals from Neal Maupay and Alexis Mac Allister (2-1). Now, Brighton aim to give fans yet another reason for celebration, and the bookies see them as hot favourites to win Saturday’s football match. The Hornets, on the other hand, did well to beat Aston Villa 3-2 in their opening match of the season. The newcomers are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but they will have a mountain to climb in the Amex Stadium clash. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t surprise us if the Hornets stun the Seagulls at the Amex stadium.
HAVE THE SEAGULLS PUT THEIR WASTEFULNESS BEHIND THEM?
Brighton’s profligacy in front of goal became something of a running joke last season and badly hamstrung a team and a manager that should be taken seriously. Indeed, if games were decided on expected goals rather than real ones then Brighton would apparently have finished fifth. It will have pleased Graham Potter, then, that his team managed to kick the habit on day one of the new campaign to see off a moderately wasteful Burnley side with minimum fuss and maximum efficiency.
Credit must go to Graham Potter, who changed both formation and personnel. They were more balanced with Solly March back on the left and more fluid with Adam Lallana on the pitch. Substitutes Jakub Moder and Alexis Mac Allister laid claims for a start as they provided an assist and the winner respectively. Time will tell whether this newly businesslike Brighton side is here to stay – they still lack the most obvious mode of turning chances into goals: a decent striker.
HORNETS NOT GETTING CARRIED AWAY AFTER A PERFECT START
When Cucho Hernandez casually yet brilliantly curled Watford 3-0 up with 20 minutes to play with his first touches of the ball Vicarage Road was euphoric. Aston Villa did pull two goals back but the scoreline did not reflect Watford’s dominance and superiority. On this very early evidence, the signs are much more promising about the season ahead following the year in the Championship and the step up in quality.
On opening day there is always a buzz around the new signings and what they will be like. And boy Watford’s new boys didn’t disappoint. Emmanuel Dennis was probably most impressive. Exquisite touch, bright, sharp - his pace and movement meant he was a constant menace to the Villa defence and his link-up with Ismaila Sarr was devastating, leading to two goals. It’s early days so let’s not too carried away. But Watford and their fans can enjoy the splendid start of the campaign.

Brighton have never lost a home match against Watford in the top-flight (W1, D3), with just five goals scored in total in these four matches (three Brighton, two Watford). The home side has won just three of the last 13 league meetings between Brighton and Watford (D6, L4), including none of the last three such matches between the sides since a 2-0 Watford win at Vicarage Road in August 2018. However, Brighton ended last season with a run of five consecutive unbeaten home Premier League games and if their game against Burnley is anything to judge by, we should expect them to continue that run. On the other hand, Watford are flying at the moment after a fantastic win on their return against Villa and the Seagulls are opponents they should be looking to beat as their direct rivals for survival. Expect an open game.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
