Burnley host Leeds at the Turf Moor (Burnley) in the 3rd round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 2 pm (UK) on Sunday, August 29. Read our reasons for Burnley vs Leeds prediction and betting tips.
BURNLEY VS LEEDS: STATS & FACTS
Although often touted for relegation, Burnley usually end up silencing the critics by grinding out performances. However, these are worrying times for the ‘Clarets’ as they are currently enduring their worst-ever run of five EPL losses. Burnley might be due a draw though, as their last 12 EPL games ended up with a winner (W3, L9). That said, just one of the last 22 league clashes with Leeds ended level, with Burnley winning a mere six meetings to Leeds’s 15. A repeat of last season’s 4-0 head-to-head success (5-0, counting the home tie) here may not surprise the Leeds faithful considering their team’s fine record when starting as away league favourites since the start of 2020/21 (W5, L1).
BURNLEY VS LEEDS: PRE-MATCH TALK
We are only two games into the new EPL season but Burnley look in big trouble already as they get set to face Leeds at Turf Moor. The warning signs were already there for the Clarets after they failed to significantly strengthen a team that finished 17th last term and that has shown on the field, with early defeats to Brighton and Liverpool. The 2-0 loss at Anfield was their fifth successive league defeat and there are very few signs that they can end what is now their longest losing run in the top flight. Burnley rode their luck against Newcastle before eventually running out winners on penalties in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, but now they have the daunting task of picking up their first league win.
As for Leeds, they are only one point better off than Burnley, but there’s more positivity surrounding the Whites after they responded to their Man Utd mauling with a battling 2-2 tie against Everton. It was a typically open affair involving Marcelo Bielsa’s men with Leeds’ first 2 league games producing 10 goals, while their matches last season averaged more than three goals each. Leeds will need to tighten up at the back if they want to improve on last season’s ninth-place finish, but they should be solid enough defensively to hold off Burnley having shut out the Clarets in both meetings last season.
BURNLEY VS LEEDS: TEAM NEWS
The Clarets boss made changes in midweek due to the "simple reality" that "the main priority is the league". Pope is expected to start between the posts despite Wayne Hennessey's heroics in midweek against Newcastle. Dale Stephens and Kevin Long should be the only absentees in the home team as Ashley Westwood and Matej Vydra have recovered from their respective injuries, though Westwood remains a major doubt for Burnley and his absence would be a blow.
Meanwhile, at Leeds, Diego Llorente made his comeback from injury in Leeds' 3-0 win over Crewe in midweek, while Adam Forshaw made his first appearance for the club in nearly two years as hip and groin problems saw the former Everton man miss the bulk of the Championship-winning season and the entire Premier League campaign which followed. However, neither lasted the hour and are not expected to start here. Robin Koch is Leeds' only injury concern.

The Clarets do not seem to be at their sharpest at the start of the season, but it is well known that they are tough to beat at home. Leeds though are slowly getting over their opening weekend 5-1 defeat to Man Utd. The Whites ran out 4-0 winners the last time they visited Turf Moor and their attacking prowess could again come to the fore against a Burnley side who are winless in 12 at home, losing the last 5.
