CRYSTAL PALACE VS BRENTFORD: STATS &FACTS
Crystal Palace and Brentford haven’t faced each other in a league game since a January 1964 meeting in the third tier. In any competition, this is the first encounter between Crystal Palace and Brentford for 39 years, since a Football League Trophy match that ended 2-2 in August 1982. The Eagles are winless in their last nine London derbies (D4, L5). They’ve lost the last four in a row while conceding at least three goals in each defeat. Brentford, also, have won just two of their last 12 away league London derbies (D5 L5), winning at both QPR and Fulham in the 2019-20 campaign. The player to keep an eye on is Sergi Canós, who made the most combined tackles and interceptions of any Premier League player on Matchday 1 and scored the opening goal for Brentford in their opening day victory against Arsenal.
CRYSTAL PALACE VS BRENTFORD: PRE-MATCH TALK
Chelsea game (3-0) quickly became an ordeal for Palace, who will need time to adjust to Vieira’s focus on possession. They are in transition after parting company with Roy Hodgson and offered few signs of a change in style. Their defenders looked uncomfortable when they tried to bring the ball out from the back and their prosaic midfield proved no match for Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic. As for Wilfried Zaha, he could get barely get on the ball.
As for Brentford, they are rightly lauded for the bright and inventive attacking football that often blew teams away. Plenty of that was in evidence in their convincing win against Arsenal, particularly through the trickery of Bryan Mbeumo and Sergi Canós, but they showed rather more besides. On the evidence of Friday night, though, Brentford can both handle themselves and pack a punch. While it is true that Arsenal were miserable, there are clear signs that the Bees will make a genuine fist of survival – and perhaps even more.
CRYSTAL PALACE VS BRENTFORD: TEAM NEWS
Patric Vieira said himself that the squad is light on numbers and is speaking to the chairman about bringing in new players. He gave a debut to 18-year-old Jesurun Rak-Sakyi but said the four under-23 players who were on the bench are not ready for regular football in the Premier League. However, there were some positives for him to take away. Joachim Anderson made an impression on his debut and Marc Guehi showed he could be an excellent signing. With players like Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise unavailable through injury, it will be a while before we see Vieira's vision for this team.
Meanwhile, nine of Brentford's starting XI made their Premier League debuts in the London derby against Arsenal, while former Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer and Nigerian midfielder Frank Onyeka make their debuts for the club and can expect another start here. There had been concerns about Ivan Toney’s fitness before the Arsenal match, but he allayed the fans' fears with a man-of-the-match performance against the Gunners. Brentford have built a special team - and may start dreaming of bigger things - but for now, it's best to say three points down, 37 to go.

Even though the likes of Milivojevic, Eze, and Ferguson are out of contention for the hosts, we expect that Patrick Vieira’s men are going to find the net in their first home game of the season. The newcomers, on the other hand, did well to beat Arsenal 2-0 on their return to the Premier League, and seeing that they looked sharp in front of goal in their opener, BettingKick’s Crystal Palace vs Brentford prediction is: both teams to score.
