Derby host Nottingham at the Pride Park (Derby) in the 5th round of the Championship and the match kicks off at 12.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 28. Read our reasons for Derby vs Nottingham prediction and betting tips.
TOO MUCH AT STAKE FOR BOTH RONNEY AND HUGHTON IN THIS EAST MIDLANDS DERBY
The two fierce rivals meet at Pride Park on Saturday having had differing fortunes so far this term. Forest are bottom of the Championship and are yet to earn a single point, having lost all four of their league games so far. Derby, on the other hand, have surprised many by taking five points from their first four games after a chaotic summer, which left Rooney with a threadbare squad. Having lost an off-field battle with bitter East Midlands rivals Nottingham for the services of Man Utd midfielder James Garner, Derby will now seek to have the last laugh by condemning Forest to what would be their joint-longest Championship losing streak since July-Oct 2020.
DERBY MEANDERING THROUGH OFF-FIELD AND INJURY CRISIS
A win in the East Midlands derby would be a much-needed boost to yet another sluggish August for Derby, a team that’s drawn their first two Championship home matches this term, and failed to win their first four home league games in both 2020/21 and 2019/20. The Derby board may be running out of patience with manager Wayne Rooney, who now laments the poorest win-rate of their last five head coaches.
His attacking influence is failing to rub off on his squad, who have found the back of the net more than once in just one of their last 11 league outings. Even so, Rooney’ll have loved dropping the subtle dig about his side starting the season better than the Reds, particularly given the off-field chaos ahead over the summer. It seems the Rams boss is relishing the opportunity to claim his first East Midlands derby win.
DEFEAT COULD SPELL THE END OF CHRIS HUGHTON’S TENURE
Manager Chris Hughton will be under even more pressure than Rooney, especially after it appears a loan move for promising Man City striker Morgan Rogers fell through during the week. Forest are in desperate need of attacking support, after their 1-0 defeat at Stoke last weekend saw them record a tenth consecutive Championship match in which they also failed to score more than one goal in a game.
Hughton needs more numbers in, though - ideally before the trip to Pride Park. His squad is still desperately threadbare, with time running out to put that right. Many will point to a lack of ambition in this team and certainly no effort. The derby game has to be different for that reason. If Forest don’t beat a team in administration, , who have had their best players out, then Hughton will certainly have to walk.

The last three league meetings between Derby and Nottingham have ended 1-1. With little separating these two teams, it will be a close call, and a draw is quite likely. However, on a closer look, only one of the last five clashes of these two sides has seen more than two goals. Moreover, since both sides have been struggling in front of goal of late, we are putting our money on under 2.5 goals for the BettingKick’s Derby vs Nottingham prediction.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
