Dinamo Zagreb host West Ham at Maksimir Stadium (Zagreb) in the 1st round of the Europa League group stage and the match kicks off at 5.45 pm (UK) on Thursday, September 16. Read our reasons for Dinamo Zagreb vs West Ham prediction and betting tips.
DINAMO ZAGREB VS WEST HAM: STATS & FACTS
Dinamo Zagreb stumbled at the final hurdle of UEFA Champions League qualification to find themselves in the group stages of the Europa League for a second successive season. Exiting at the quarter-final stages last season would’ve hurt Dinamo, but being undefeated in their last 13 UEL group games (W9, D4) - having conceded only once in the last eight - and sitting pretty at the summit of the Prva HNL, has the Croatians primed to cause a stir once again. Meanwhile, West Ham’s surprise sixth-place Premier League finish last season earned them their first European competition inclusion in 15 years. Hopefully, enough time has elapsed for the Hammers so they won’t remember their last European adventure, where they went without a victory in their final four games and failed to score (D1, L3). They should be confident though, as David Moyes’ men are in fine domestic form, having lost only once across their last nine competitive fixtures (W5, D3).
DINAMO ZAGREB VS WEST HAM: PRE-MATCH TALK
Dinamo made it through three rounds of Champions League qualifying but failed to make it to the group stage after a 3-0 aggregate defeat against FC Sheriff, with all the goals coming in the first leg. That saw them drop down to the UEL and they will be hoping for a similar run like last season when they famously knocked out Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham on their way to the quarter-finals before losing to eventual winners Villarreal. They are currently top of the league in Croatia on goal difference and have been defensively solid in recent weeks, keeping six clean sheets in seven matches in all competitions.
On the other hand, West Ham might not have the European experience advantage but on paper, they do have a much better squad than their hosts and should be aiming to secure at least a point on Thursday. A point was all West Ham got for their efforts against Southampton at the weekend, and the Hammers sit 8th in the Premier League table with 8pts to their name and a striker, Antonio, in excellent form. Having failed to recruit a direct understudy during the transfer window, Moyes will need the services of the 31-year-old again.
DINAMO ZAGREB VS WEST HAM: TEAM NEWS
Goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic is a doubt through injury having missed out at the weekend, with Danijel Zagorac on standby. With Dino Peric sidelined youngster Josip Sutalo could keep his place at the back ahead of new signing Emir Dilaver. Captain Arijan Ademi made a timely return to action from injury from the bench at the weekend and should be fit to start in the Dinamo engine room. Finally, wing-backs Bartol Franjic and Stefan Ristovski missed the win at the weekend but should return to the side.
As for West Ham, with a fully fit squad to choose from, David Moyes is likely to rotate having named an unchanged starting XI in the league in each of the opening four matches. New signings Alphonse Areola and Kurt Zouma should come in, while we could also see a full debut back on home soil for Nikola Vlasic. Michail Antonio would likely have been rested but given he is now suspended for the weekend's match against Manchester United, he may well start once more.

West Ham are back in Europe and will be determined to get off to a flying start as they head to Croatia for their opening Europa League match. The Hammers are unbeaten in the PL after four matches but now begin the challenge of also competing in Europe, which could stretch their squad. Qualifying for the knockout stage as quickly as possible has to be the aim and we fancy a West Ham win for our BettingKick Dinamo Zagreb vs West Ham prediction.
