Dortmund scored five goals in the first round of the Bundesliga, but on Saturday they will have a much tougher assignment to beat Freiburg away. Read our Freiburg vs Dortmund prediction and betting tips.
Freiburg played great football in the middle of the last season but their start and their finish were below average. They are hoping to find more consistency this term and the goalless draw against Arminia in the first round was a fine result in their eyes. Win against Würzburger Kickers in the first round of the DFB Cup showed that defense is fine and that players have more self-confidence than in previous years. There are many reasons why Freiburg is the firm club in the middle of the Bundesliga standings, and certainly, coach Christian Streich is the key. For several years Freiburg finds decent footballers for small amounts in the transfer market and they are usually performing much better than they are paid.
Freiburg has almost the same key players as in the last season, and Streich was more than pleased to have Lucas Höler, Vincenzo Grifo Ermedin Demirovic, and Roland Sallai in the squad. Italian Grifo has been included in the national team thanks to his star performances in the Freiburg shirt, as he left his usual midfield role to play in the more attacking positions. They have pushed another transfer since the last weekend and brought in versatile Maximilian Eggestein from Werder Bremen. He will be more than capable to find a starting role in the upcoming games.
Freiburg: Flekken - Lienhart, Heintz, N. Schlotterbeck - Schmid, Keitel, Höfler, Günter (c) - Sallai, Höler, Grifo
Out: Burkart (knock), Petersen (knee)
Doubtful: Gulde (hip)
Coach: Christian Streich
Dortmund started the season on a high note despite their loss in the Supercup against Bayern on Tuesday. Both teams played at a great pace but the Munich team converted their chances much better. Dortmund showed they are very close to champions judged by pure performance and intensity but Haaland and co must find a way to be more ruthless in front of the goal. Norwegian striker has a great start to the season, he was involved in seven goals in the first two matches against Wehen Wiesbaden in the cup and Eintracht Frankfurt on the first weekend of the Bundesliga. He was close several times against Bayern but Neuer still got fine reflexes.
It will not be good for Dortmund if just Haaland is performing well, and they are well aware of that fact. Captain Marco Reus looked good so far, he scored a goal, provided an assist in the 5-2 win over Frankfurt. He also scored in the Supercup and made some great passes in the final third, and he could be one of the reasons why Dortmund must be a contender for the title after several years. Marco Rose didn't have too many options at the back at the moment. Axel Witsel will probably continue to play at center-back with Manuel Akanji.
Dortmund: Kobel - Passlack, Witsel, Akanji, Schulz - Bellingham, Dahoud, Reyna - Reus (c) - Haaland, Moukoko
Out: Brandt (not included), Coulibaly (knee), Meunier (not included), Morey (knee), Schmelzer (knee), Zagadou (knee)
Doubtful: Can (calf), Delaney (ill), Guerreiro (calf), Hazard (ankle), Hitz (ill), Hummels (knee)
Coach: Marco Rose

Freiburg won 2-1 against Dortmund at home in February. That was just their 4th win in 42 games against visitors. With Haaland in the team, Dortmund is more than dangerous but also very prone to defensive mistakes. BettingKick’s Freiburg vs Dortmund prediction is: Both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
