Genoa has a tough schedule at the start of the season, after a 4-0 defeat against Inter away, they must host excellent Napoli with Sarri on the bench. Read our reasons for Genoa vs Napoli prediction and betting tips.
Davide Ballardini was Genoa’s savior last term, but he has the tough job of getting his team out of the relegation zone once again after finishing 11th in the previous season. They changed few players in the summer but the core is there, they know what to expect from experience coach and their leaders on the pitch and locker room. The main goal is to win winnable games and to try to surprise some of the big clubs if a possibility occurs. Ballardini replaced Rolando Maran at the Marassi last December, returning for the fourth time to Enrico Preziosi’s club. He is a stable figure, very keen to found similar players to represent the club.
Ballardini had limited options for the first match of the new season and Inter took advance of almost every mistake they made. The Grifone had Mattia Bani and Valon Behrami banned, with Mattia Destro, Ivan Radovanovic and Paolo Ghiglione dropped due to pending transfers. They had just a few chances to score and their best player was new goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu who despite conceding four goals made several great saves. Former Napoli defender Nikola Maksimovic has agreed on terms with Genoa and could be joined by Mohamed Fares from Lazio. They are still waiting for a striker as Felipe Caicedo is someone Ballardini wants as a primary option, but Genoa must wait for the Ecuador international to give his response to a two-year deal they’ve proposed. It is for sure that Genoa will be better as time passes by, at the moment they are playing with rivals out of their level.
Genoa: Sirigu; Biraschi, Vanheusden, Criscito; Sabelli, Sturaro, Badelj, Hernani, Cambiaso; Pandev, Bianchi
Napoli lost the Champions League spot in the last round last term, changed coach in the summer but showed they are again capable of playing good football even at the start of the season. Despite an early red card for their striker Victor Osimhen, they won 2-0 comfortably against promoted Venezia and Insigne missed the penalty. They created several chances with a man less and Spalletti was pleased with overall performance early in the new season. They changed a little regarding the last term, so if something really strange happens until the end of August they will be very hard to beat in this league. Attacking prowess from several players, defensive experience, and another chance for Spalletti to prove his coaching worth are just a few reasons for their probable high place in the standings at the end of the season.
The bad news is that Osimhen has received a two-match ban for his reaction foul, meaning he will miss the upcoming games against Genoa and Juventus as he was sent off just 23 minutes into the 2-0 win over Venezia for striking Daan Heymans. The good news is that Napoli won even after Insigne missed the first penalty of the game but later Lorenzo scored from the second Napoli penalty in the game and Eljif Elmas connected for a final 2-0 after good action from the whole team. Overall, that was a mature and strong performance, Spalletti could be satisfied with the attitude of his team. The crowd has been positive and supportive from the start and their presence in few tough moments made them more confident. They are still working on the new identity after the last hard season but they look good at the moment.
Napoli: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Manolas, Koulibaly, Rui; Fabian, Lobotka, Elmas; Politano, Insigne, Lozano

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
