Hungary host England at the Puskás Aréna (Budapest) in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifications and the match kicks off at 7.45 pm (UK) on Thursday, September 2. Read our reason for Hungary vs England prediction and betting tips.
BEST IN GROUP I MEET
The Three Lions lead their hosts by just two points in the group with an impressive goal difference of just 1 goal. But, they have won all the games that they have played in the qualifiers, scoring 9 goals in the process. Will the Euros runners-up get their frustration out against Hungary in the latter’s own backyard? Led by Italian head coach Marco Rossi, Hungary began their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign in March with a draw against Poland and wins over San Marino and Andorra. The Magyars are two points behind first-place England with seven qualifiers still to play between now and Nov. 15. They were performing above expectations at the European Championship finals and will be tough to beat at home.
CONFIDENT HUNGARY LOOK A REAL THREAT
Hungary succumbed to a late onslaught when losing 3-0 to Portugal at the beginning of their Euro 2020 pool, having been level until an 84th-minute opener. The Magyars then drew 1-1 with France at this venue before a 2-2 stalemate with Germany in Munich, leading three times in those contests. Including last year’s Nations League matches and Euro 2020 play-offs, they have only failed to score in two of 14 competitive contests.
Seeking their first World Cup appearance since 1986, Hungary have lost just twice in 16 matches since international soccer resumed last September following a hiatus due to the pandemic. The Magyars are coming off an admirable performance at the Euros and are brimming with confidence. Marco Rossi has quality players at his disposal - Southgate’s men will have to keep an eye on Hungary’s Ádám Szalai, who has been directly involved in eight goals in his last eight starts in World Cup qualifying (7 goals, 1 assist).
CHANCE FOR NEWCOMERS TO SHINE
England’s Euro 2020 adventure took them all the way to the final, with Germany, Ukraine and Denmark negotiated in the knockout rounds. Heartbreakingly though the Azzurri went on to lift the trophy via spot-kicks. Nonetheless, Gareth Southgate is rightly confident of being able to rally his troops again, just as he did when they went out in the semis of the 2018 World Cup and the inaugural Nations League.
England also made short work of San Marino and Albania in their first couple of World Cup qualifiers. Poland were competitive in a 2-1 loss at Wembley though. Trent Alexander-Arnold returns at Gareth Southgate’s disposal, and the English manager has to take a big decision of whether or not the Liverpool defender can play a more advanced role in the midfield. Other new additions to the camp are Jesse Lingard, who was brilliant for West Ham last season, Patrick Bamford, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin – both of whom have been terrorizing the Premier League defenses with their goals.

England return to action for the first time since their penalty shootout heartbreak in the Euro 2020 final when traveling to Hungary. The Magyars made an early exit from that tournament but were far from disgraced in the so-called group of death and should be competitive. We reckon both teams to score is the way to go with our BettingKick Hungary vs England prediction.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
