Germany has two wins from two matches in the Hansi Flick era. Their visit to Iceland could be their biggest obstacle so far on the road to WC in Qatar. Read our reasons for Iceland vs Germany prediction and betting tips.
Iceland surprised many several years ago when they qualified for the EURO and even made an immense stamp on the tournament winning against England in the knockout phase. Since then, every rival knows that they are capable to play good football, they are not outsiders and far from underestimated when they are on the pitch. Iceland is still trying to exploit as much as the possible generation of players that made a huge impact in EURO 2016 but they are now more predictable, and older. They had few bad results that decreased their chances to be in contention for the top spots, losing 2-0 at home against Romania and drawing 2-2 against North Macedonia. With just 4 points from 5 matches, they are far from Germany that got 12 points, or even Armenia with 10.
If they don't win against Germany, they will be out of the race for the top places in this group, and Arnar Vidarsson will probably try to give more minutes to some younger lads that played decent football in the U21 team. They already lost 3-0 against Germany away, but in that game, they missed several chances to score a consolation goal. It is obvious that they miss Gylfi Sigurdson, who has personal problems and it is out of the game for few months and he is irreplaceable for now in this team. Albert Gudmundsson is suspended due to the accumulation of cards, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson is injured. The rising star of this team is Andri Gudjohnsen, son of the former Barcelona and Chelsea player and current Iceland assistant manager Eidur Gudjohnsen.
Iceland: Runarsson - Sävarsson, Hermannsson, Br. Bjarnason, Skulason - Palsson - Thorsteinsson, Baldursson, Johannesson, Bi. Bjarnason (c) - Gudjohnsen
Out: A. Gudmundsson (suspended)
Doubtful: J. Gudmundsson (knock)
Coach: Arnar Vidarsson
It was a good start as a German national coach for Hansi Flick. Two wins with two clean sheets are more than welcome for any team at the start of the new era, no matter they’ve won it against Liechtenstein and Armenia. Germany looks like Bayern under Flick, same style of football, trying to dominate with possession but always ready to switch on more direct football and kill you with counters. After not so good EURO tournament and farewell for Low who was in charge for many years, Germany is trying to reach the elite group of national teams once again. This could be also the last attempt for many players to reach another big competition and try to retire from the team with a style in Qatar.
Flick is like a breath of fresh air in the dressing room and his relationship with media helps to build a positive atmosphere. Players that are the core of the team are the same, some of them are out because of injuries but when the time comes, Germany is at their best. Flick has a good relationship with all the clubs that are playing in the European competitions so he managed to spread the minutes on many players so they don’t feel fatigued after this qualifying window as the start of the Champions League is around the next corner. Marco Reus, Riddle Baku, Kai Havertz, Thomas Muller are out, so Hoffenheim's David Raum could make a start at the left-back. Jamal Musiala continues to impress and he should be one to watch in the next game.
Germany: Neuer (c) - Hofmann, Süle, Rüdiger, Raum - Kimmich, Goretzka - Sane, Musiala, Gnabry - Werner
Out: Baku (rested), Gosens (ankle), Müller (thigh), Reus (knee)
Doubtful: Havertz (ill)
Coach: Hansi Flick

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
