After a great EURO tournament, Italy has an easy task to win against Bulgaria at home. The difference in class and quality will get them an easy win. Read our reasons for Italy vs Bulgaria prediction and betting tips.
The Azzurri resume their adventure in 2022 WC qualifiers just a couple of weeks after winning EURO 2020. Roberto Mancini named, as always, a huge list of 34 players for the upcoming games against Bulgaria, Switzerland, and Lithuania. Lazzari had an injury against Spezia and he is not with the team, but Berardi, who didn’t play a minute for Sassuolo in the new season is among players that have for now a perfect campaign. Italy will play Bulgaria at the Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence on Thursday trying to continue their 34-match unbeaten run in all competitions and friendlies. They are no longer a surprise after a brilliant run in a big tournament and being able to beat the best teams on the continent. Italy team is more than happy with what they achieved over the summer but must remain humble because everyone will bounce on the opportunity to beat EURO champions.
Roberto Mancini changed their style of football to try to get maximum from the players on the roster, playing some entertaining football at times. When things got rough, they easily switched to their more traditional, usual, defensive style, and with that mix, they are very dangerous. A lot of national teams have quality, but the unity of this group of players and coaching staff is their main weapon. The first match after the big celebration could be tricky but they are well aware that Bulgarians are at the beginning of the new project with some younger players that want to surprise the champions.
Italy: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Chiellini, Bonucci, Emerson; Verratti, Jorginho, Barella; Insigne, Immobile, Chiesa
Andrea Belotti’s penalty and a wonderful Manuel Locatelli strike gave Italy the 2-0 victory in Bulgaria to maintain their perfect World Cup qualifying start. Bulgaria also lost 3-1 at home to Switzerland and had a goalless draw with Northern Ireland away. Italy had never won a competitive match on Bulgarian soil, so Bulgarians started the match with confidence late in March and at the time Spezia striker Andrey Galabinov had the first chance, but Gianluigi Donnarumma saved his shot. The crucial moment of the first game between these rivals happened just before half-time when Belotti went down under a push from Daniel Dimov as he ran onto the Insigne slide-rule pass. The Torino striker converted it himself into the near bottom corner to give Italy the lead.
The first goal opened a game in the second half but series of chances from both sides, the match was finished by a substitute Manuel Locatelli right-foot finish into the far corner. That was a rare opportunity in the last few years that Bulgarians were pleased with their performance despite defeat. They are far from the places that could lead them to qualify as both Italy and Swiss have more points and much better teams but we can’t ignore their efforts to push the favorites to the maximum. Bulgaria has very difficult time recently, as they won just 2 of their last 28 competitive matches including friendlies. One of those two victories was against Gibraltar in November, so they are far from the great side that competed at the WC 1994.
Bulgaria: Mihaylov; Hristov, Antov, Bozhikov; Nedelev, Malinov, Kostadinov, Chochev, Karagaren; Despodov, Delev

It is hard to see how Bulgaria can surprise Italy in this match. Italy and Swiss must achieve every point from matches against other teams in this group to allow themself to be at top of the group at the end of the campaign and go to WC without playoff matches. BettingKick’s Italy vs Bulgaria prediction is: Home win to nil.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
