Leeds host Everton at the Elland Road (Leeds) in the 2nd round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 21. Read our reasons for the Leeds vs Everton prediction and betting tips.
LEEDS VS EVERTON: STATS & FACTS
Both league meetings between Leeds and Everton were won by the away team last season, with Leeds winning 1-0 at Goodison Park and Everton winning 2-1 at Elland Road. Prior to this, the away side had won just one of the previous 27 top-flight meetings between the teams. Leeds haven’t lost both of their opening two games to a top-flight campaign since 1980-81, while Everton have kept a clean sheet in six of their last eight PL away games, though they have also failed to score in four of their last six on the road in the competition. All eyes should be on Leeds winger Raphinha, who scored in both fixtures against Everton last season. Also, curiously, Everton manager Rafael Benítez has won all three of his previous away games against Leeds in all competitions, with each victory coming in charge of a different club - Liverpool Chelsea and Newcastle.
LEEDS VS EVERTON: PRE-MATCH TALK
The Whites were forced to play without home attendances throughout the 2020-21 season, which means that fans weren’t able to see first-hand just how impressive they were. Leeds could be a leading contender for a Europa League place this season, but they will quickly need to get their 5-1 defeat from Old Trafford out of their system. While United were very impressive on the opening weekend, Leeds were equally as bad at the Theatre of Dreams. They were punished for their defensive errors throughout the game and never looked like kicking on.
It was a much more promising start for Everton, as Rafael Benitez’s tactical switches underpinned a stirring comeback against Southampton at Goodison Park, which was something Carlo Ancelotti repeatedly failed to do at home last season. The Saints were ahead at the break, but Everton fought back excellently in the second period and finished beating Southampton 3-1. Of course, it is only one game and results will determine the levels of support for Benítez who, ever the professional, just wants to get on with the business of winning.
LEEDS VS EVERTON: TEAM NEWS
On Monday, it was reported that Leeds are looking to add a winger and a midfielder but, in all honesty, the Whites don’t look in need to make any panic signings at this time after adding Junior Firpo and Kristoffer Klaesson to play a first-team role this summer. However, they did sign a new 5-year deal with young French keeper Meslier, who enjoyed an outstanding debut campaign, keeping 11 clean sheets, which helped Leeds secure a ninth-place finish. As for the Everton game, Kalvin Phillips, who represented England at the EURO 2020 finals, is pushing for a start, while defender Diego Llorente remains in the recovery room.
As for the Toffees, Rafa Benitez says handing the Everton armband to Seamus Coleman was one of his easiest decisions as a manager. Benitez is also challenging Doucoure, whose stunner turned the scoreline on its head at the weekend, to net at least five times in the Premier League this term – and wants increased goal contributions from all positions to support the weekend’s other scorers, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. On Saturday, only James Rodriguez, who has been tested positive for coronavirus, and who may be on his way out of Everton, is out of contention for the visitors.

There will be a lot of emotion at Elland Road on Saturday, as Leeds fans welcome their club back home to the Premier League. However, Everton are likely to adopt yet another attack-minded approach against Leeds, and seeing that Marcelo Bielsa’s men are a real force to be reckoned with at home, BettingKick’s Leeds vs Everton prediction is: both teams to score.
