Leicester host Man City at King Power Stadium (Leicester) in the 4th round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, September 11. Read our reasons for Leicester vs Man City prediction and betting tips.
LEICESTER VS MAN CITY: STATS & FACTS
When Premier League resumes this weekend the spotlight will be on the two sides that fight for the top prize. Interestingly, none of the last 11 league meetings between the Foxes and Cityzens has ended as a draw, with Leicester winning four to the City's seven. Of all Premier League fixtures to have been played at least 20 times, Leicester vs Man City is the only one to have been won by the away side over 50% of the time – 11 away wins in 20 games (55%). Moreover, just one of Leicester’s last 23 Premier League home games has ended level (W12 L10), while City have not lost both of their first two away games in a single Premier League campaign since 2006-07. The defending champions are favourites here, but Leicester will be encouraged after prevailing when these teams clashed in the Community Shield.
LEICESTER VS MAN CITY: PRE-MATCH TALK
Leicester hit the ground running this season, taking six of the first nine points available to them. The Foxes can be found in ninth place but are within touching distance of the top, with Chelsea and the top four just a point better off heading into the weekend. The locals have won two games and lost one, scoring four goals in those opening three matches of the season but conceding five. The Foxes were last seen beating Norwich 2-1 on the road - another big performance from Leicester, but there’s still room for improvement. A win here would see them climb the table but beating Man City is easier said than done.
On the other hand, despite high expectations, Man City stumbled out of the blocks and returned empty-handed from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (1-0). It was a shock defeat for Pep but one the club were able to respond to. Man City bounced back to win each of their next two, moving to seventh in the league. Since losing to Tottenham, the visitors have played two and won two, scoring ten goals and keeping a couple of clean sheets. Last time out they demolished 10-men Arsenal 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium - it was a real show of strength, and fans hope the team have found their feet.
LEICESTER VS MAN CITY: TEAM NEWS
Leicester have looked ahead in this transfer window. Jamie Vardy’s replacement in Patson Daka is a masterstroke as is the capture of box-to-box midfielder Boubakary Soumare. Whilst Ruan Bertrand’s was an un-Rodgers-like signing it shows insight in getting that experienced head in the back 4 as well as cover for a young Luke Thomas. Also, Wesley Fofana’s injury was quickly dealt with by signing cover in Jannik Vestergaard from Southampton. Apart from, Jonny Evans and Jannik Vestergaard, who are still doubtful for Saturday, Rodgers can pick a really strong XI.
As for Man City, Pep Guardiola spent £100m on British record signing Jack Grealish to give them another point of creativity but there was disappointment in their lengthy pursuit of Harry Kane, who is staying at Spurs, and the link with Cristiano Ronaldo ended with Man United's declaration of interest. However, if one team, one squad, can pull this off, it is Man City with Grealish adding an attacking X- factor. But there is no doubt the acquisition of Kane would have made them firm favourites to retain their title.
