Man City host Norwich at the Etihad (Manchester) in the 2nd round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, August 21. Read our reasons for Man City vs Norwich prediction and betting tips.
PRESSURE IS ON REIGNING CHAMPIONS TO DELIVER
Defending champions Man City will be expected to bounce back from Sunday’s 1-0 defeat at Spurs when they welcome Norwich to the Etihad Stadium at the weekend. The Citizens looked out of sorts in north London, while Norwich were outclassed by Liverpool on their return to the top flight, losing 3-0 at Carrow Road. Goals from Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah meant they started the season with an emphatic defeat. Man City won the most recent fixture between the two teams 5-0, but Daniel Farke's men will take confidence from their 3-2 success back in September 2019.
EXPECT SECOND-HALF FIREWORKS
Man City missed the opening game of the season last year, and they probably wish they did the same again this term. The champions spent most of the summer warring with Tottenham for the signature of star striker Harry Kane, but Spurs were smiling when claiming all three points on matchday one. A single goal from Son Heung-Min scored on 55 minutes won Tottenham the points, and no one watching the game would grudge them the victory.
Norwich are likely to try to defend in numbers and Guardiola’s men struggled to click in the final third against Spurs, with £100 million signing Jack Grealish still getting used to his new teammates. Mahrez and Sterling were also below their best, but the home side are expected to hog possession and as a result, will have time to play themselves into the game. We expect Guardiola’s men to make their class tell, but it may be the second half before Norwich tire and leave space for them to exploit.
CAREFREE CANARIES MUST TIGHTEN UP AT THE BACK
Nobody doubts Norwich’s commitment to expansive football and it was evident again on Saturday, even if they ultimately fell well short against Liverpool. They play some scintillating stuff but, just as when they were comprehensively relegated two seasons ago, their Achilles heel may lie at the back. Their distribution from central defence did not match the composure on show in midfield and there was a scratchy feel to their work at the back.
Although there is mitigation for Grant Hanley in particular given he did not play a minute in pre-season, Norwich will need to find defensive solidity quickly, even if the visit to Man City this Saturday might make that tricky. They may also require the extra authority in midfield, where Billy Gilmour showed tantalising glimpses of his lavish potential but could perhaps use some experienced help. Daniel Farke’s side seem better placed than in two years ago, but there is work to do.

Pressure is on the home team to deliver the good after coming up short on the opening weekend of the campaign. Anything other than three points on Saturday would be a huge blow for the team’s confidence and would cause unrest in the stands. Will they claim the desired result, or can the Canaries cause an upset? Norwich’s defence looked fragile against the Reds, and we all know Man City have the firepower to make them pay. If the hosts are at their best, they should have enough to get off the mark.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
