Man Utd host Newcastle at Old Trafford in the 4th round of the 2021/22 Premier league season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, September 11. Read our reasons for Man Utd vs Newcastle prediction and betting tips.
MAN UTD VS NEWCASTLE: STATS & FACTS
Man Utd also have the chance to start a home league campaign with successive wins by 3+ goals for the first time since 2011/12. If they do that, they’ll also condemn Newcastle to their joint-worst four-game start to a PL season, and the visitors could even end the weekend bottom if they fall to a defeat by six goals. United have lost just one of their last 36 home league games against Newcastle (W26, D9), while the Magpies have opened the scoring in six of their last eight Premier League meetings with Man Utd but have gone on to win just two of those (L4). Understandably, all eyes will be on Cristiano Ronaldo, who is set to make his second Man Utd debut here. His first debut yielded a 4-0 win at Old Trafford and ultimately led to three straight league titles, a first UEFA Champions League medal, and 84 goals in 196 Premier League appearances.
MAN UTD VS NEWCASTLE: PRE-MATCH TALK
After finishing a fine second behind neighbours City last term, United have made a solid start to the current PL campaign. They thrashed Leeds 5-1 on the opening weekend at this venue before drawing 1-1 at Southampton and then winning 1-0 away to Wolves. The Red Devils were far from convincing on both of those road trips but will be hoping the capture of Ronaldo provides them with an extra edge. The Portuguese superstar netted 5 times in 10 games against Newcastle in his first stint with the Red Devils and will be looking to strike early against a team who have already conceded 8 goals in 3 EPL games.
As for Newcastle, they kicked off with losses to West Ham and Aston Villa and a 2-2 home draw with Southampton did little to appease supporters angered by a lack of significant transfer activity. The Magpies turned in a woeful first-half display at St James’ Park and were fortunate to go in 0-0 at the break, with their head coach having had to listen to chants of “We want Brucie out”. They improved in the second half and led twice through Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin but James Ward-Prowse earned Saints a point with a penalty in the stoppage time. Sadly, for Newcastle, another loss here seems almost inevitable.
MAN UTD VS NEWCASTLE: TEAM NEWS
Until they reached the final of the Europa League last season, Man Utd had been the nearly men. Semi-finals weren't an issue, it was getting to the finals that proved the problem. As it is, with Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo there are three positions sorted with undeniable quality - two of them with insane amounts of trophy-winning experience. So now, surely, is the time for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to get over the line and lift some silverware - otherwise, what's the excuse?
As for Newcastle, despite the return of Joe Willock on a permanent basis from Arsenal, this transfer window will be viewed as a disappointment as Steve Bruce still wanted another midfielder and a centre-half. It could have been different if United had made room in their squad by moving on some fringe players. But, with no one else leaving before the deadline, Bruce will continue to work with a squad who - apart from goalkeeper Freddie Woodman - were all at the club last season.

All eyes will be on the second coming of Cristiano Ronaldo when United entertain Newcastle and this looks a good game to return for. The Red Devils did the double over the Magpies by a 7-2 aggregate last season and have won four straight Old Trafford meetings, which have produced 19 goals. Let’s follow those trends and go for over 2.5 goals in the game for our BettingKick Man Utd vs Newcastle prediction.
