Louis Van Gaal started his third stint as a Netherlands national team coach with a draw against Norway away, and only a comfortable win vs Montenegro on Saturday is expected. Read our reasons for the Netherlands vs Montenegro prediction and betting tips.
The Netherlands didn’t play their best football in Norway but a valuable point is achieved against Haaland and his teammates. Dortmund striker scored at the end of the first half, but Davy Klaassen earned some time and space in Norway’s penalty box to equalize a few moments later. It wasn’t a great game to watch as the usual passing style of football didn’t give the Netherlands any advantage on the pitch and in the second half, they lacked chances to score. Van Gaal will change a few players in the starting lineup but even with many of them lacking experience in the national team they are more than capable to put Montenegro under pressure.
Netherlands switched from 5-3-2 that was their first option at EURO, to a more traditional 4-3-3, and after Blind suspension due to cards, left-back Malacia will get his chance to shine. The right-back should be Dumfries, who is without meaningful minutes in the new season. De Ligt could be Van Dijk’s partner in the middle of the defense and there is a chance that Bergwijn could replace Berghuis and play from the start. Dortmund striker Malen is also in contention for minutes from the first whistle. It should be one of the crucial matches for the home side because any surprise here would reduce their chances for the top spot in this group.
Netherlands: Bijlow, Dumfries, Malacia, Van Dijk, De Ligt, Frenkie De Jong, Wijnaldum, Klaassen, Gakpo, Berghuis, Memphis
After the 2-2 draw with Turkey in Istanbul, Montenegro will try to do something similar against the Netherlands on their difficult visit to Eindhoven. The draw at Besiktas Park, achieved in the last moments of the match, with a fabulous free-kick goal scored by left-back Radunović gave them new strength and confidence. Adam Marušić, Lazio's right wing-back also put his stamp, as his goal reduced the gap at the end of the first goal when Turkey had two goals advantage. Hosts were a better team overall and wasted multiple chances to close the game in both halves and Montenegro shouldn’t be satisfied with the performance, they certainly took a favorable result. Montenegro conceded two cheap goals at the start of the game but won a very important point.
A match with the Netherlands awaits them and should be even tougher, as they wasted energy and stamina against a better opponent in Istanbul. Both teams performed without a few players, Montenegro's roster is not that wide, it is very difficult to play three games in seven days, in these circumstances when injuries and covid protocols have an impact on starting lineup. The point won in Turkey is an additional wind in the back as Montenegro remained undefeated in Istanbul, despite playing without Stevan Jovetic, Nikola Vukcevic, Stefan Mugosa, Marko Jankovic, Vladimir Jovovic, Aleksandar Boljevic, Matija Šarkić, with four or five of them are regular starters. Only striker Stefan Mugoša will be able to play in Eindhoven, but left-back Žarko Tomašević is under question because of injury, and starting center back Igor Vujačić is suspended because of accumulated yellow cards.
Montenegro: Mijatović, Vešović, Simić, Savić, Radunović, Šćekić, Kosović, Božović, Hakšabanović, Marušić, Đurđević

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
