Jose Mourinho has a new job, to make Roma relevant again in Serie A. His first task is not an easy one, to win a home game against Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina. Read our Roma vs Fiorentina prediction and betting tips.
Roma owners weren’t afraid to invest money in a new project, because Mourinho or arriving players don’t guarantee anything and they spend more than many Premier League clubs. Someone in Rome thinks that Mou is still capable of big things in football and Thiago Pinto’s job as sports director will rely on this season. The Giallorossi are expected to give Rui Patricio, Matias Vina, and Eldor Shomurodov their league debuts against Fiorentina, with Tammy Abraham expected to enter off the bench against the visitors.
Jose Mourinho was satisfied after Roma win 2-1 away to Trabzonspor in the UEFA Europa Conference League play-offs, as he felt his team was balanced and solid throughout the game. Lorenzo Pellegrini’s cushioned volley and an Eldor Shomurodov tap-in were more than enough to give them an advantage before the game in Rome. Mourinho saw that his team wasn’t ready for 90 minutes on a high level, especially Jordan Veretout and Bryan Cristante who haven’t managed to do much fitness work in pre-season. Also, Mourinho addressed his concerns with conversion rate, as Roma reached the final third many times without scoring. With Jose on the bench and without Džeko who left for Inter, it will be a new Roma, but probably more likable than the last term, with Zaniolo back after severe injury.
Roma (4-2-3-1): Rui Patricio; Karsdorp, Mancini, Ibanez, Vina; Cristante, Diawara; Zaniolo, Mkhitaryan, El Shaarawy; Shomurodov
Suspended: none
Injured: Spinazzola, Smalling
Fiorentina made a mess in the offseason by signing Gennaro Gattuso as a new coach. That didn’t end well as former Italian international left the team less than ten days after he arrived, with concerns that he will not get reinforcements in the roster. Viola then reached out to a more likable coach, Vincenzo Italiano. He has moved to Fiorentina after a successful spell with Spezia. Italiano made his good impression in the last season, his former club made a great impact on the other low-budget clubs, playing watchable football and making results with an almost Serie B roster.
Italiano has the almost same squad as last year, so his first big task will be to give Viola fans something to believe in. They were inconsistent, there were some contrasts in performances that regular Viola fans couldn’t cope with. There are many rumors regarding their first striker, Serbian Dusan Vlahovic who has been linked with big-money moves this summer. If he stays, Fiorentina has a roster and a coach who can bring them again place in standings, close enough to fight for Europe. Ribery has gone, but Nico Gonzales from Stuttgart will replace him with ease.
Fiorentina (4-3-3): Dragowski; Venuti, Milenkovic, Igor, Biraghi; Bonaventura, Pulgar, Castrovilli; Callejon, Vlahovic, Gonzalez
Suspended: none
Injured: Amrabat

New Roma played a good game in Turkey but the pressure is now much higher at the start of the Mourinho era in Serie A. Fiorentina has better attack than defense, so goals should be on both sides of the pitch. BettingKick’s Roma vs Fiorentina prediction is: Both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
