Sampdoria went with Roberto D’Aversa to replace successful Claudio Ranieri, who guided Samp to ninth in Serie A last term and ex-Parma coach will have the hard task to make an upset against Milan at the Marassi on Monday. Read our Sampdoria vs Milan prediction and betting tips.
Sampdoria coach Roberto D’Aversa can sense the pressure ahead of his new chapter in his career. After a successful spell with Parma two years ago he couldn't manage to do the same thing twice. Parma got relegated but D'Aversa stayed in Serie A. “I return as a coach to a team where I have been as a player. There’s also a sense of responsibility, it’s one thing to be a coach and one thing to be a player. In addition to being proud, I have a lot of enthusiasm, I hope it can be a year full of satisfaction.” Sampdoria played good football last term and Claudio Ranieri was loved among the fans and media.
Veteran Fabio Quagliarella sparked Sampdoria to a 3-2 comeback win over Alessandria, including a spectacular back-heel flick goal to set up the Coppa Italia tie with Torino. Keita Balde didn’t stay in the club after his good season on loan from Monaco. Jakub Jankto has officially moved to Getafe following three years with the Blucerchiati for 6 million euros but most of the interesting mix among shaped veterans and intriguing potential is still there. Players like Thorsby and Damsgaard will have another season to build their portfolio before they left the club, and Candreva, Gabbiadini, and Quaqliarella will help them lead the club to a mid-table place in the standings.
Sampdoria: Audero; Bereszynski, Yoshida, Colley, Augello; Thorsby, Ekdal; Candreva, Gabbiadini, Damsgaard; Quagliarella
AC Milan finished as runners-up last term but had a difficult summer in losing key players Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu. They look very out from the title contenders but that was the same at the start of the last season and they were on the top for several months. That was the main reason they were busy in the transfer market and it looks like Milan has done excellent business regarding proven players coming into the club. Stefano Pioli will have a good and big roster and he will certainly try to be much closer to the title, as minus 12 against Inter in the last season was too much for passionate Milan fans.
Mike Maignan will help to replace Donnarumma on goal, he had a wonderful season in Lille and he came as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe at the moment. Fikayo Tomori presented his skills during a loan spell from Chelsea and Milan used the buyout clause in this contract to bring him back. After Calhanoglu left for Inter and Kessie injury problems there is a big hole to fill in the midfield, so that would be a great chance for Sandro Tonali and Bennacer to step up. Theo Hernandez had a great season also, and his speed and attacking potential must be at the same levels to help Milan stay at the top. Zlatan is currently injured but Olivier Giroud is a goalscorer capable to replace him, looking like a perfect fit for Pioli’s tactics.
Milan: Maignan; Calabria, Kjaer, Tomori, Hernandez; Tonali, Bennacer; Saelemaekers, Diaz, Leao; Giroud

Milan will probably win this game, but Sampdoria is so hard to predict with their ups and downs through the season. Goals should be a bit of easier betting advice at the moment. BettingKick’s Sampdoria vs Milan prediction is: Both teams to score.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
