Sevilla must be a favorite to win against Salzburg, despite the Austrian team's impressive form lately. Read our reasons for the Sevilla vs Salzburg prediction and betting tips.
Sevilla postponed the derby match against Barcelona to be as fresh as possible for the start of the UEFA Champions League group stage. FIFA canceled bans for Brasilian players involved in the national team, but even with that, both clubs had many players arriving late from their duties in South America. Because of that, they had the green light to reschedule the match, giving both teams enough time to prepare for the European clashes with Salzburg and Bayern Munich. Sevilla started the season with two wins, with two clean sheets, edging Getafe in added time. They gained the seventh point in the new campaign with a draw against Elche. Striker Youssef En-Nesyri scored the only goal for Lopetegui’s team, second in La Liga in the new season.
Sevilla coach Lopetegui is one of the most dedicated to his job in the world. He is always ready to talk about how to improve some segments of the team and satisfied if his team keeps a clean sheet, so Sevilla is an organized and disciplined team, above all. He is aware that many players in his roster can solve the game with one move, so he insists that the game in defense be at the highest level. If his team makes fewer mistakes than the opponent, they will win, it is his football philosophy. The Andalusian club managed to progress to the knockout stage of the UCL last term, but Erling Haaland and Dortmund were better. In the group with Lille, Salzburg, and Wolfsburg they must be favorites for the first place.
Sevilla: Bono; Navas, Kounde, Carlos, Acuna; Jordan, Rakitic, Fernando; Suso, En-Nesyri, Ocampos
Salzburg is the best team lately in Austria, for years and by far. They have 15 titles, 8 in a row, and they have won every competitive match in the new season so far. Their latest loss was on 3rd July when they were defeated by Monaco 3-0 in a friendly match. After their ex-coach Jesse Marsch left for Leipzig, they had a difficult task to find someone who could be successful like him. Matthias Jaissle is on the right path to be even better as his side stormed past Brondby in two games, qualifying for the group stages of the UCL. Aggregate 4-2 doesn’t reflect how Salzburg dominated in both legs. In the Austrian league, they scored 19 goals in seven wins, getting what they want early in the season, an advantage in the table that could give them more room to prepare for European games.
Salzburg needs something more from the UCL in the new season. They played the group stage three times, were below the line in all attempts, and never played a match in the knockout phase. It always happened that they played in very strong groups, with clubs of a higher reputation, budget, and class, and that prevented them from going further, as well as the style that they have been pushing for years. Salzburg is considered as a team that plays offensively and very attractively, against any rival, in any place, no matter if it is a home or away match. Tradition is against them this time, as they have won only once in nine games they have played in Spain. What is certain is that they will continue to play in the same way, trying to score one more goal than a rival, regardless of the name and quality of the opponent.
Salzburg: Kohn; Kristensen, Solet, Wober, Ulmer; Seiwald, Camara, Capaldo; Sucic; Sesko, Adeyemi

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
