Southampton host West Ham at St.Mary’s Stadium (Southampton) in the 4th round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, September 11. Read our reasons for Southampton vs West Ham prediction and betting tips.
SAINTS WELCOME HIGH-FLYING HAMMERS
Southampton began this EPL round as the highest placed of the eight winless clubs after snatching a point at Newcastle last month. Their fans could be in for another nerve-wracking several months of being perilously close to the relegation zone unless they can address their scoring woes after just one clean sheet from their last 24 league fixtures. Ironically, they are 13th in the standing after accruing the 13th-largest spend of all EPL clubs during the summer transfer window! West Ham though have not looked back since securing their highest top-flight finish of this century last season. Few would have picked them to be joint leaders for goals scored (ten) after three rounds and it won’t come as a surprise if they stun the Saints at St. Mary’s.
THE SAINTS FACE A TOUGH TASK
While the Hammers have been climbing the table, the Saints have been falling, and many people’s outside tips for a season of struggle have had little cause to change their minds. They have won 3 of their last 11 home games and those wins came against Burnley, Crystal Palace, and Fulham, so this is a far tougher task. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team have not managed a shutout in any of those games and they may not have enough to stop West Ham.
It is hard to know if the Southampton faithful will be delighted or demoralised by their start to the season, with a home draw with Man United sandwiched by a convincing defeat from Everton and a share of the spoils at St James’ Park. Ralph Hasenhuttl will be desperate to get a first league victory of the season on the board but faces a tough challenge to keep the Hammers at bay.
MOYES HOPING FOR A CLINICAL DISPLAY AFTER PALACE SETBACK
West Ham enjoyed an excellent season in finishing 6th in the EPL last year and the early indications are that they will not be slipping back this time. They have scored 10 goals in their 3 games with center-forward Michail Antonio terrorizing the defences that have so far crossed his path. However, the 2-2 draw with Palace felt like two points dropped, rather than one extra added to the total, and they will be hoping to return to winning ways here.
Impressive results were achieved on the road during the closing stages of last season, so a successful visit to Southampton should be well within their scope. David Moyes has done an excellent job at West Ham to this point, but there is certainly a feeling that there is more to come. Consistency throughout this season could put them on the brink of European qualification, and on their displays so far this campaign, they could more than be up for that challenge.

The ‘Hammers’ have been near-invincible against Southampton in recent years, taking points from each of the seven most recent EPL encounters (W6, D1). When also considering that all five of their goalscorers from this EPL campaign made an appearance in their most recent clash, all signs point to another commanding win. Saints look very beatable, and with West Ham continuing to prove last season’s sixth-place finish was no fluke, our BettingKick Southampton vs West Ham prediction is: West Ham win

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
