Ukraine and France didn’t have the best intro for group derby. Both earned unsatisfied draws in the last round and this match could be the difference-maker at the end of the qualifiers. Read our reasons for Ukraine vs France prediction and betting tips.
Ukraine has shown against Kazakhstan that it has problems against teams that know how to defend and play on counterattacks. Although they had a two-time advantage in the match, both times they managed to concede a goal and in the end scored a disappointing point on the road. They opened the scoring early, had several chances to finish the game, but hit the post and the bar in the first half. After a draw against the same team at home and the same goalscoring 1-1 draw with Finland at home, Ukraine no longer has the room to make a mistake in this group. Playing against France to win could be disastrous for a team that is incapable of defending and make a clean sheet.
It can’t be said that Ukraine is a team on par with Finland and Kazakhstan, it is almost certain that they deserved victories in all duels with these teams in the group, but after so many draws, especially at home, it is more than clear that they are missing something. On the other hand, the 1-1 draw against France away in March, gives us a feeling that they have enough quality to challenge any team in the world. They tend to underestimate weaker rivals and put themselves in a bad situation. Oleksandr Zinchenko will miss the next match due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
Ukraine: Pyatov; Mykolenko, Matvienko, Zabarnyi; Karavaev, Shaparenko, Sydorchuk, Sobol; Yarmolenko, Malinovskiy; Yaremchuk
A bad result at the EURO left a mark on the French national football team. The game against Bosnia was below their level, and in the end, the 1-1 draw was a good result, because France played in the second half with a player less on the field due to a direct red card by Jules Kounde. Interestingly, Deschamps started with Kimpembe in the right-back position, so numerous attacks from that side ended with bad crosses in the penalty box. Kante's absence in the middle of the field caused France to have a hard time getting the ball back. When France had the ball at their feet, it was without real ideas and concrete chances.
Bosnian team captain Edin Dzeko got the ball in the net with a long-distance strike in the 36th minute but Antoine Griezmann equalized before halftime for the final result. France had something more in the second half despite playing more than 40 minutes with 10 men, but they lacked quality in the final third to end the game with three points. Expectations are high for world champions and they failed to deliver after a defeat against the Swiss at EURO. Jules Kounde got a red card, so Dubois will get his chance at the right-back. Mbappe left the team due to a calf injury so Deschamps will have to pick someone else for a starting spot on the wing.
France: Lloris; Dubois, Varane, Kimpembe, Digne; Pogba, Rabiot; Coman, Griezmann, Lemar; Benzema

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
