Wales host Estonia at the Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff) in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifications and the match kicks off at 7.45 pm (UK) on Wednesday, September 6. Read our reason for Wales vs Estonia prediction and betting tips.
WALES TO MAINTAIN MOMENTUM
Gareth Bale completed a match-winning hat-trick deep in injury time (2-3) to save Wales from an embarrassing defeat against Belarus in Russia and keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup. This fortuitous victory keeps the dream intact, no matter how improbable it may be, though Belgium remain overwhelming favourites ahead of the Czech Republic and Wales, who are third with a game in hand. On the other hand, Estonia are yet to win a single point in Group E, and are rooted to the bottom of the pile after losing their opening three matches and conceding 15 goals in the process. Estonia's Baltic Cup triumph in June has at least given them something to build on before a taxing week in September, and even though that momentum has surely come to a halt against Belgium, their performance against the top-ranked side in the world was spirited enough to give Wales something to think about.
WIN GIVES WALES’ SLIM HOPES OF TOPPING THE GROUP
Wales travelled light to Russia, Uefa’s neutral venue of choice owing to sanctions against the Belarus government, with 13 players absent due to injury, illness and visa ineligibility. No wonder, therefore, that coach Robert Page had described this fixture as a "nightmare logistically" - but Wales were still expected to beat a Belarus team 70 places below them in the Fifa rankings.
Robert Page's side have another five games to catch their rivals - starting against Estonia in Cardiff on Wednesday - but, even at this early stage, the play-offs look like their likeliest route to a first World Cup appearance since 1958. Finishing second in their group would secure a play-off spot, but Wales at least have the peace of mind that winning their most recent Nations League group has all but ensured their passage to the play-offs.
ESTONIA SHOULDN’T BE TAKEN TO LIGHTLY
Estonia have left out some experienced faces for this set of qualifiers with Aksalu, Antonov, Baranov, Luts and Ojamaa, each possessing over 40-caps each, missing out for one reason or another. Henri Anier and Sergei Zenjov provide the most likely source of goals for the home side, who have also called up the uncapped duo of Marco Lukka in defence and Karl Andre Vallner in goal. Captain Konstantin Vassiljev of Flora has 131 caps to his name and 25-goals from midfield.
After being thrashed 6-2 by the Czech Republic on opening day, Estonia were sunk 4-2 by Belarus and 5-2 against Belgium. They stunned the Belgians with a second-minute goal in their World Cup qualifier, but the world number ones ultimately came back and eased to victory. However, it was a moment that suggested that Estonia are full of confidence after recording three wins during the summer at the Baltic Cup that ended a 19-match winless streak.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
