Watford host Wolves at the Vicarage Road (Watford) in the 4th round of the 2021/22 Premier League season and the match kicks off at 3 pm (UK) on Saturday, September 11. Read our reasons for Watford vs Wolves prediction and betting tips.
WATFORD VS WOLVES: STATS & FACTS
Home form may be the key to the Hornets’ stability, as Watford’s 3-2 victory in their opening EPL home game extended their current winning run of home league games to an all-time best (10). Eight clean sheets figure in Watford’s ongoing winning run in home league action, but the PL is a different proposition. In fact, Watford have no clean sheet across their last 13 PL matches played at any venue, whilst scoring themselves in only seven of those games. Wolves, on the other hand, have begun this league campaign with a hat-trick of 1-0 defeats, despite outshooting their opponents in every fixture. Indeed, Bruno Lage’s men have averaged a sizable 19 shots per match so far – the third-highest in the league. Their current away run though includes three losses. Encouragingly for them, Wolves have scored in each of their last five visits to Vicarage Road.
WATFORD VS WOLVES: PRE-MATCH TALK
A summer cull at Vicarage Road was complete when club captain Troy Deeney left for Birmingham at the end of the transfer window and this feels like the beginning of a new era for the Hornets. Xisco Munoz’s new-look side return from the international break looking to recreate their matchday one heroics over Villa. Since then, back-to-back defeats at the hands of Brighton and Tottenham see them sit in 12th and with questions beginning to mount. Most importantly, where the goals will come from?
There has been a theme running through Wolves’ season to date with all 3 of their league games finishing in 1-0 losses. But when you consider those defeats came against Leicester, Tottenham, and Man Utd the results are less damning and a visit to newly-promoted Watford may be one they look forward to. Wolves should pose a threat, but the finishing touch has been missing notably from Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez, who does not yet look like his former self after returning from a serious head injury.
WATFORD VS WOLVES: TEAM NEWS
Deadline day for Watford was mainly about offloading players no longer required at the club, having done their incoming business before 31 August. And the board will be pretty pleased with what they achieved. With Will Hughes and Troy Deeney already gone and an array of new players in throughout the summer, it feels like the start of a new era at Vicarage Road - particularly without the club captain. Watford now need to form a new identity.
As for Wolves, failure to make a major signing is going to be a hard sell to the fans. Small-squad policy under Nuno Espirito Santo worked wonderfully until injuries and loss of form highlighted the inherent risks of such a strategy. The signings they have made all seem encouraging enough, and Adama Traore and Ruben Neves are still in place. But in net terms, Wolves appear no more able to deal with contingencies than they were a year ago.

Watford faithful will be hoping to see Ismaila Sarr recapture the form that saw him lead the club’s scoring charts in last season’s promotion campaign as the question of where will the goals come from lingers. Wolves are in no better place - their struggles in front of goal are highlighted by the fact they are yet to convert any of 15 attempts on target. With all three of their league contests ending 1-0 and their forward line struggling, it would be no surprise if opportunities were rare on Saturday afternoon and those that are created weren’t taken. We’ll take under 2.5 goals as our BettingKick Watford vs Wolves prediction.
