Wolves host Tottenham at the Moulinex (Wolverhampton) in the 2nd round of the 2021/22 Premier League and the match kicks off at 2 pm (UK) on Sunday, August 22. Read our reasons for Wolves vs Tottenham prediction and betting tips.
WOLVES VS TOTTENHAM: STATS & FACTS
Wolves have won one of their seven PL matches at Molineux against Spurs (D2, L4). In their last meeting in May, Spurs won 2-0 in London and are looking for consecutive Premier League wins over Wolves for the first time since 2003/04. Worryingly, Wolves have lost each of their last four PL games, scoring just one goal in the process. It’s their longest losing run in the top-flight since a run of seven between March and April 2012. Players to watch are Wolves striker Raúl Jiménez, who could make his first appearance at Molineux since November 2020 – the Mexican is the club’s top scorer in the competition’s history (34), as well as their top scorer at Molineux in the Premier League (18), and Spurs forward Son Heung-Min who scored a winning goal against Man City last weekend.
WOLVES VS TOTTENHAM: PRE-MATCH TALK
Under new coach, Bruno Lage Wolves look more positive than they were under Santo and carved out more than their share of good chances in their opening-weekend loss at Leicester. Where little has changed, however, is a likely reliance on Raul Jimenez because it’s hard to see who else is going to contribute to any goals. Lage must build on the team’s success of the last few seasons and continue to develop the players at the club. He doesn’t have a huge budget to spend in the transfer windows but will be targeting a place in the top 10.
As for the visitors, Wolves away might actually be a tougher test for the Portuguese manager than Man City because the team he left behind won’t be anywhere near as expansive as City were, and won’t leave as much space in behind. One success against a below-par City doesn’t alter the fact that Tottenham are suspect in key areas – central defense and creativity in midfield are two obvious weak links and Wolves are a threat to them. It has not been a quiet start to the season for new Nuno Espirito Santo, playing the EPL champions at home at the start, returning to his old club, Wolves, for game two amidst talk of star man Harry Kane leaving. However, so far, he has acquitted himself well.
WOLVES VS TOTTENHAM: TEAM NEWS
Admittedly, Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence, standouts from the last campaign, both enter this season with long-term injuries, while goalkeeper Rui Patricio has left for Roma, but the addition of Francisco Trincão and José Sá suggest Wolves have learned a lot from their nightmarish campaign by adding depth, with both performing well on debut in the 2021/22 opener. Also, Wolves winger Adama Traoré completed 11 dribbles in their season opener against Leicester; the most of any player on MD1 of the new Premier League season.
As for Tottenham, the team on Sunday will probably resemble the one for their league opener against Man City as Spurs are expected to make 11 changes to his Tottenham Hotspur side as they take on Pacos de Ferreira on Thursday night. All 11 players who started in the victory against City will be given a rest, while Harry Kane, Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier have also been left to train at Hotspur Way, with the latter duo not named in the squad for the two Europa Conference League play-off legs.

The home team will be going all out to prove they are able to cope without their former boss and show fans an exciting season lies ahead. Spurs, though, were spectacular last weekend when beating Man City, and they now head into this match full of confidence. Wolves have won only one of their last seven games, but are a good side capable of matching the visitors.
