Deportivo Alaves play host to Real Betis in the opening match of the new La Liga campaign.
Last season Deportivo Alaves managed to avoid the relegation, but they had only a very narrow three points advantage over the drop zone. The objective for coach Pablo Marchin would be to achieve the same result but with a more comfortable mid-table position. This would be pretty challenging as the squad has remained more or less the same and in preseason they have looked shaky especially at the back with eight goals conceded in four friendlies, no wins and three defeats. Alaves have been anything but impressive in pre-season, with the team losing to both Osasuna and Athletic Club, while sharing the spoils with Real Sociedad. The Basques were not too active in the summer transfer window, with the likes of Pablo Machin, Deyverson, and Battaglia (loan) joining the club.
Real Betis will also be looking at the new campaign as an opportunity to improve. In the last season, they finished just two points above their next opponents and generally lacked consistency throughout. Their preseason campaign has been positive tough with wins against Cadiz, Almeria and Granada. On the other hand, a number of first-team regulars left the Estadio Mendizorrotza outfit. Los Beticos, on the other hand, have appointed Manuel Pellegrini as the club’s new boss, meaning that they have big ambitions for the upcoming season. Seeing that the club owners managed to keep hold of key players in the summer transfer window; adding the likes of Martin Montoya, Claudio Bravo, and Victor Ruiz to the squad, away win should be considered. Real Betis is known for its rivalry with Sevilla CF. The Sevilla derby is one of the biggest in Spanish football. The most famous nickname of Real Betis is Verdiblanco’s which literally mean Greenandwhite.

Betis is for sure favorite in this match but Alaves are on their home soil, the first game in the La Liga campaign 2020-2021, with a good team in shape. Backing the Over 2.50 goals looks the way to go here as both are pretty vulnerable defensively and being the first match of the season they won’t even be in top form yet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
