The 2020/2021 season officially starts on Saturday when Premier League champions Liverpool take on FA Cup winners Arsenal in the Community Shield at Wembley on Saturday, August 29 at 3pm (UK).
Liverpool have just had one of the most memorable seasons in their rich history, after they won their first league title in thirty years and became the world club champions. According to the squad they all seem eager and hungry for more success and silverware this year, and the lifting of this symbolic cup may serve as a catalyst to their season, just like winning the European Super Cup did the trick in 2019.
The Gunners, on the other hand, endured a frustrating season as they finished the campaign in the eight place. Had they not won the FA Cup against Chelsea, their season would have been completely written off, but this way, they managed to secure a Europa League spot and win some silverware as well, which will bode well for Mikel Arteta's team.
ARSENAL VS LIVERPOOL MATCH ANALYSIS
Liverpool have spent last few weeks in a training camp in Austria preparing for the next season, and the fact that they had a longer break than Arsenal could play a significant role in this match. During the short pre-season they won their game against VfB Stuttgart and drew against FC Red Bull Salzburg.
As far as the squad goes, Liverpool have signed only a cover for Andy Robertson, a Greek left-back Costas Tsimikas. Captain Henderson will not feature in this game as he is getting closer to full training and Trent Alexander-Arnold and Oxlade-Chamerlain will be absent as well. Liverpool have scored nine goals against Arsenal in their last season's three meetings, but they won only once.
Contrary to Liverpool, majority of Arsenal's best players have only had few days of training coming into the new season, so it will be interesting to see if Arteta decides to tamper with the squad and field a weakened side. They also have their injury woes with Leno, Chambers, Martinelli and Mustafi all being sidelined.
However, they will be boosted by the signing of Willian from Chelsea and Gabriel, a defender from Lille. Apart from the new signings, the club's priority is a new contract for Aubameyang, as the club is still trying to hold onto their best player, and he will want take this opportunity to show Arteta or his next employers what he is capable of.

The Reds were left empty-handed in last year's Community Shield against Manchester City but that didn't derail their season. This time, they will have an upper hand coming into the match, not only because they are the champions, but because of the fresher squad and more players with enough pre-season practice under their belt.
Many consider this cup just a glorified friendly, where coaches have the chance to try new formations and new players, but with both teams winning fifteen Community Shields so far, the two teams could give their best out there just to earn the bragging rights.
