ARSENAL VS MAN CITY MATCH ANALYSIS
The 2019/2020 FA Cup winners progressed to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after knocking out Liverpool in Round 4 in the penalty shoot-out after 0-0 in the regular 90 minutes. The Gunners are looking for their 20th League Cup win at home since 2006/07, which would equal Chelsea’s record at Stamford Bridge (20). The defending champions Man City will definitely have their say about it after they set up the clash with Arsenal with a 2-1 win against Bournemouth in Round 3 and Burnley at Turf Moor (0-3) in Round 4.
Arsenal are sitting in the wrong half of the table (15th) after picking up only 14 points from their first 14 PL games and have been without a win in their last five league matches at the Emirates Stadium (D1, L4). Mikel Arteta says that he is not worried about his position after his side slumped to their worst start to a season since 1981 with a 2-1 defeat to Everton at Goodison on Saturday, and will look to repeat the feat from the last season’s FA Cup semi-finals when they won 2-0 against the Citizens.
As for their fourth-round match on October 1, after a goalless 90 minutes at Anfield, Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno saved two penalties in the shootout before Joe Willock scored the winning spot-kick. The teams produced a 5-5 thriller at Anfield in the competition last season before a penalty shootout, won by Liverpool, but this was a considerably less exciting match. Arteta won’t mind winning in the same manner on Tuesday if it means lifting the pressure which he is under at the moment.
Pep Guardiola’s side, on the other hand, is blowing hot and cold in the league, but are nevertheless unbeaten in the last eight matches in all competitions (W5, D3). Man City won their third consecutive title, defeating Aston Villa in the final at Wembley Stadium in London on 1 March 2020, and will look to stay in the competition which has brought them so much success lately.
They played their 4th round match against Burnley on September 31, when Raheem Sterling's first two Manchester City goals of the season - and Ferran Torres' first for the club - ensured the holders reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup at Burnley's expense. 18-year-old Cole Palmer, a boyhood City fan, showed flashes of promise on his senior debut, and Guardiola will probably shuffle his starting eleven again and give some youngsters a chance against underperforming Arsenal.
