Arsenal host Newcastle at the Emirates (London) in the 19th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Monday, January 18.
ARSENAL VS NEWCASTLE MATCH ANALYSIS
The Gunners saw their winning run come to an end on Thursday night, but they remain unbeaten in five, a streak that includes a 2-0 Round 3 FA Cup win over their Monday's opponents on January 9 and a goalless draw against Crystal Palace in the league on Thursday. They have climbed to 11th in the standings and could finish in the top-half of the table with a win here. As for Newcastle, the Magpies have lost their last three away league matches and haven't won a competitive match since a 2-1 win over West Brom in mid-December. They are on an eight-game winless run (D2, L6) and are coming into this game on the back of becoming the first team to lose to Sheffield Utd in a disappointing performance in midweek. They are seven points from safety in 17th place and could do with at least a point here.
Mikel Arteta has got Arsenal out of their slump and it has coincided with giving some of his younger squad members the chance to prove their worth. The likes of Emile Smith Rowe, Bukayo Saka, and Gabriel Martinelli have taken the bull by the horns and turned Arsenal’s fortunes around. Defeat at Everton on 19 December left them only four points above the relegation zone after 14 games - their worst start to the season since 1974-75. But fortunes changed with a surprise victory over Chelsea, which has now been followed up by two more wins in the league and progress to the Round 4 of the Fa Cup.
However, their recent resurgence was checked by a stubborn Crystal Palace on Thursday, who claimed a hard-fought point from a forgettable encounter at Emirates Stadium. For a side in such good form, Arsenal were a disappointment going forward. Tagged as relegation candidates as little as three weeks ago, the Gunners came into the game off the back of four straight wins in all competitions but were unable to find their way past the well-drilled and disciplined visitors.
Newcastle, on the other hand, remain on the losing course. They were knocked out of the EFL Cup quarter-final at the hands of Championship side Brentford, lost to Arsenal in the Fa Cup, and lost two more league games after a gutsy draw against Liverpool has eased the pressure a bit. However, giving the Blades their first win of the season would probably hurt the most. Their misery was further compounded by Ryan Fraser’s sending-off, meaning he is suspended for their Monday trip to the Emirates.
For Newcastle, it has been a rotten month since they beat West Brom. Steve Bruce picked a defensive side for the trip to Sheffield and saw them fail to manage a shot on target in the opening 45 minutes. Wilson was left isolated up front as the Magpies defended deep in a bid to hold on to a point and Their only opportunity of note fell to returning England striker Callum Wilson, who headed over from six yards out after a fine cross from the right by Fernandez. Newcastle have now lost three consecutive away league games for the first time since October 2019 and will have to be braver when they visit London next.

Arsenal have won 14 of their last 15 Premier League matches against Newcastle (L1) and have an exceptional home record against Newcastle – the Magpies have lost their last eight away league matches against the Gunners since their last win there in 2010.
Arsenal have kept four successive clean sheets to boot and should be confident of getting back to winning ways at Newcastle's expense on Monday. Newcastle have to be more difficult to play against, which could only work if they are more of a threat going forward.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
