Arsenal host Slavia at the Emirates Stadium (London) in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League quarter-finals and the match kicks off at 8 pm (UK) on Thursday, April 8. Read our reasons for Arsenal vs Slavia prediction and betting tips
Arsenal's bid to reach a second final in three seasons continues against Slavia Praha, who have already eliminated two British clubs en route to the quarter-finals. Arsenal will no doubt be pleased to have avoided the likes of Man Utd, Ajax, Roma, and Villarreal in the quarter-finals. But let’s face it, Slavia Prague is no pushover with their hugely impressive and largely unexpected victories over Leicester in the Last 32 and high-flying Rangers in the previous round. It is difficult to ignore the fact that the Gunners are a mid-table team in the Premier League and look like they still have a long way to go.
Arsenal currently sit tenth in the league, nine points off the Champions League places, and will perhaps have to rely on success in Europe to bag a spot among Europe’s elite competition next season. The Gunners return to action following the international break looking to build on recent momentum. It is a busy week for Mikel Arteta’s men as they face Slavia in midweek and then face a stern test as they welcome reigning champions Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Arsenal made a meal of progressing to the quarter-finals against 10-man Olympiacos. Holding a 3-1 victory from the first leg in Greece, a poor display saw Mikel Arteta’s side lose 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium but advance on aggregate. Arsenal have produced a few sluggish first-half performances recently and have only been leading at the break in one of their four knockout matches in the Europa League this season and Slavia stands a genuine chance of upsetting the Europa League odds here.
As for the Czech champions, victory over Rangers, which featured spectacular goals in each leg from Romanian international Nicolae Stanciu, took the club into the last eight of the UEFA Europa League for the second time in three seasons. Jindrich Trpisovsky’s men will now attempt to claim their third consecutive British scalp. However, Slavia's last two European quarter-finals have both resulted in defeats by English clubs - Chelsea two years ago and Leeds United in the 1999/2000 UEFA Cup.
Slavia’s 2-0 victory against Rangers at Ibrox was overshadowed by allegations of racism but in footballing terms, it was another stunning upset for the Czechs. Kemar Roofe and Leon Balogun were both sent off for Rangers but Slavia were good value for their place in the quarter-finals. Slavia were thrashed 7-0 on their only previous visit to the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League in 2007 but are expected to provide a much sterner test this time.

Arsenal meet Slavia Prague for the third time ever, having previously clashed in the group stages of the 2007/08 Champions League where Arsenal won 7-0 at home before drawing 0-0 away. This is Arsenal’s 16th quarter-final tie in major European competition, progressing from 9 of the previous 15, and are unbeaten against Czech opposition in eight fixtures (W7, D1).
Slavia only conceded one goal against Leicester and Rangers so will not be easy to break down. Backing Trpisovsky’s men to extend their fairytale run may not be such a bad idea, but our BettingKick’s Arsenal vs Slavia Prague prediction sticks with: Under 2.5 goals

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
