Arsenal host Tottenham at the Emirates (London) in the 28th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 4.30 pm (UK) on Sunday, March 14. Read our reasons for Arsenal vs Tottenham prediction and betting tips.
Still hoping for a surge to the UEFA Europa League berths, Arsenal are largely unaccustomed to entering derbies below their most hated rivals in the Premier League table. However, they will close the gap on seventh-placed Tottenham to just four points with victory in their 168th top-flight meeting, and boast the all-time edge in such clashes (W66, D47, L54) if the fatigue from a midweek Europa League win against Olympiacos doesn’t play its part. Meanwhile, aiming for a first league double over Arsenal since the inaugural PL season of 1992/93, Tottenham are making a belated lunge for the top four, winning three straight PL games ahead of this clash. Given Arsenal’s poor starts in post-European games this year, it is interesting to see whether Tottenham can open the scoring inside 25 minutes as they did in each of those three wins.
Last weekend Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s sixth-minute opener was followed by a string of chances, but the Gunners failed to finish off the Clarets. They were made to pay when Granit Xhaka gift-wrapped a 39th-minute equaliser, as he took a short pass from Bernd Leno before bizarrely firing the ball against Chris Wood and into the net. Both sides had chances to grab a second-half winner and Arsenal had a strong penalty appeal turned down, leaving Arteta a touch frustrated.
Arsenal have only lost to Manchester City in their last four top-flight fixtures and they were very competitive in that 1-0 reversal. High-scoring wins over Leeds and Leicester either side of that defeat read well, while there was no disgrace in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Burnley. The Gunners are playing some nice football, though, and now just need to develop more of a killer instinct in the final third of the pitch.
As for the Spurs, following a miserable run of five defeats in six league games, Tottenham have resurrected their top-four hopes with a hat-trick of victories in this competition. Admittedly, Spurs have had a nice run of fixtures, beating Burnley 4-0, Fulham 1-0, and Crystal Palace 4-1. However, the manner of their performances has been most pleasing, with Gareth Bale and Harry Kane both hitting doubles versus the Eagles.
On what has changed, the main thing was the mentality because Spurs just needed to have the belief in themselves. When Mourinho’s men have the confidence, they are able to dominate games. However, Spurs will find it hard to control proceedings against an Arsenal team which is comfortable on the ball. Even so, Kane is really prolific in derbies after netting 11 times in a dozen Premier League encounters with the Gunners, which makes him a hot favourite to break the deadlock.

Arsenal meet Tottenham having not previously won in their last five meetings with Spurs in all competitions (D2 L3) – they’ve never gone six without a win against their north London rivals before. Tottenham are looking to win three consecutive league games against Arsenal for the first time since October 1974, while victory at the Emirates would give them their first league double over the Gunners since 1992-93.
Each team must quickly recover from tricky Europa League ties but should be looking forward to a full-blooded affair at Emirates Stadium. The north London derby has seen both teams find the net more often than any other fixture in the Premier League (38 games) and the BettingKick’s Arsenal vs Tottenham prediction is: Both teams to score
