ASTON VILLA VS ARSENAL MATCH ANALYSIS
Aston Villa come into this game after they slipped to a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to West Ham on Wednesday night. The Villans have two wins in seven in all competitions (D1, L4), but with two games in hand, while being in 9th place, they are still on course to get into the mix for one of the European berths. As for Arsenal, they too are reeling after they had failed to win back-to-back games in the PL with a goalless draw against Man Utd and a painful 2-1 defeat at Wolverhampton. They are in 10th, 5 points behind Everton in 6th after going seven matches without a loss (W5, D2) prior to the last two games.
The hosts were without a win in 2021 (L2) prior to the Newcastle match on January 23. That’s after registering 11 points in the PL during December - their most in a single month since April 2010. They have now recorded 32 points after 20 games, an improvement on the 24 they managed after 20 rounds during 2019/20. This is Smith's side best points tally at the halfway stage of a Premier League campaign since 2009-10, when they finished sixth, and have now won more games in the competition in half a season than they did in the whole of the last one.
As for their disappointing loss in midweek, West Ham were given a helping hand by two uncharacteristic mistakes from Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, but the Hammers fully merited their 3-1 win over a beleaguered Aston Villa team. Martinez will certainly hope to put that underwhelming performance behind him as he faces his former club on Saturday, where a win would do wonders for Villa's European prospects after a spell of inconsistent form in the top-flight.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are in a much better place than they were a month ago. Notwithstanding their last match, the Gunners are winning football games again and playing well while keeping clean sheets. Mikel Arteta has got Arsenal out of their slump and it has coincided with giving some of his younger squad members the chance to prove their worth. Following a run of seven league games without a win in November/December, the Gunners have won five of their last eight (D2, L1), shipping just four goals in that run and scoring 14.
However, against Wolves, Arsenal looked in complete control against Wolves until David Luiz clipped Willian Jose in the 44th-minute for a penalty and controversial red card. They ended up losing 2-1 with goalkeeper Bernd Leno also sent off. Arteta's men cannot afford to feel sorry for themselves and must aim to get back on track straight away, but the defeat has seen them slump to 10th in the table and they are now nine points adrift of the Champions League places.

Aston Villa ran out 3-0 winners when they visited the Emirates in the reverse fixture back in November but their supporters may not feel as confident in their team after watching their game in midweek. Dean Smith has depended on around 13 players up until this point but really needs to trust others if Villa are to ensure their second half of the season is not a disappointment.
Arteta's men could potentially rise as high as seventh with a win depending on Thursday's result, although that scenario is highly unlikely given Spurs' and Chelsea's superior goal difference, and Villa have come out on top in the last two meetings between the two clubs.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
