ASTON VILLA VS BRIGHTON MATCH ANALYSIS
Villa got off to a fantastic start, having won their first four league matches, but have since suffered two straight home defeats at the hands of Leeds and Southampton, and shipped seven goals in the process. However, they recorded a fantastic away win at the Emirates before the break (0-3) to get back to winning ways and climb the table to 6th with 15 points and a game in hand. Villans are expected to record a back-to-back victory here, but they should not underestimate the Seagulls.
After a defeat to Spurs last weekend, Brighton hoped to bounce back when they host Burnley before the international break. The Seagulls wanted to put an end to their five-game winless run in the top division, but they managed to get only a goalless draw from the game. It was their third draw in the last four games, which was enough to put them at 16th place with 6 points Brighton are only three points clear of the relegation zone and will look for their second away win when they visit Birmingham.
Aston Villa suffered a little dip in their form recently, with the team experiencing all sorts of defensive problems in back-to-back losses to Leeds United (0-3) and Southampton (3-4). Villa were second best throughout those two league games, unable to compete with the visitors' intensity and energy, but they responded in style to such a ruthless ending to their unbeaten streak when they visited London on November 8.
In that match, Ollie Watkins’double helped Aston Villa claim an impressive victory at Arsenal to move up to sixth in the Premier League. Villa were the more dangerous team, always looking more likely to score than the Gunners and they could have won by an even bigger margin. Back-to-back defeats raised concerns that their excellent start may have been a false dawn, but this performance will have significantly eased some of those fears.
Brighton were always going to struggle this season. Apart from Maupay, their new young full-back Lamptey, and centre-back Ben White, who have been stand-out performers so far, there are not too many positives for Graham Potter. Four defeats, three draws, and a solitary win mean that Brighton have picked up just 6 points from the first seven games.
Before the international break, they drew against Burnley at home. In a game that was winnable on all accounts, they did not pose much threat as could not beat Nick Pope in Burnley's goal. Pope did well to deny Danny Welbeck on his first start for Brighton and despite the possession and domination in the game, they could not find the winner. Brighton had 19 shots - the most by any side without managing to score in any Premier League match this season, and that is basically the story of their season so far.

The host may prove too much for Brighton having in mind the respective forms of the clubs and the fact that Aston Villa are unbeaten in their last eight league matches with Brighton (W4 D4), since a 0-1 defeat in December 1980. Also, the Seagulls have lost all five of their visits to Villa Park in the top division.
Villa is also scoring goals for fun this season, with Ollie Watkins netting six goals in his last five Premier League appearances, and Jack Grealish providing the assist for half of those goals. Twelve of the Seagulls’ last 15 Premier League points have been won in away games (80%), but with Villa’s fire-power upfront they will be the underdogs deservedly.
