Aston Villa host Chelsea at the Villa Park (Birmingham) in the final 38th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 4 pm (UK) on Sunday, May 23. Read our reasons for Aston Villa vs Chelsea prediction and betting tips.
Aston Villa ended a three-game winless streak with a 2-1 win away to Tottenham in midweek. Dean Smith's side are locked into 11th place no matter what happens on the final day of the season. That position is a little deceiving as they could have been pushing for Europe had Jack Grealish not missed 12 games through injury. Meanwhile, Chelsea just need to match Leicester's result and they will secure a place in the top four on the final day, while a win for Thomas Tuchel's side would guarantee them third place. Having to field a strong XI on Sunday is far from ideal for Tuchel, as they have the Champions League final a week later.
Aston Villa have enjoyed an excellent second season back in the top-flight. However, Dean Smith may be slightly disappointed with how his side have performed in the second half of the campaign. Villa haven’t been able to maintain the form they showed in the first half of the season, and have dropped into the bottom half of the standings after a run of two defeats in three league games. However, this is a much calmer finish to the season than last year, when Villa were fighting for survival on the final day of the 2019/20 season
Aston Villa have indeed been inconsistent of late but will take great heart from prevailing 2-1 away to Spurs, especially after going behind early on. Marvelous Nakamba’s cross was turned into his own net by Sergio Reguilon and Ollie Watkins completed the comeback with his 14th league goal of the season. A first start since February for Jack Grealish was the icing on the cake and Smith is ready to unleash him again on the Blues.
Meanwhile, there were some nerves at Stamford Bridge in midweek, as Chelsea were aware that only a win would have done to keep them ahead of Leicester in the race to finish in the top-four. However, they climbed up to third with a crucial 2-1 success, gaining quick revenge for their FA Cup final loss to the Foxes in the process. A scrappy effort from Antonio Rudiger just after half-time and Jorginho’s 66th-minute penalty put the Blues firmly in control. Kelechi Iheanacho gave Leicester hope of a fightback but Thomas Tuchel’s side held firm for a deserved victory.
Thomas Tuchel will be hopeful his side can finish in the Champions League places, as it means that there won’t be anything else riding on their final against Man City next weekend. Chelsea have won their last three trips to Villa Park but can expect a tough game here. Recent encounters between the two in Birmingham have also been a bit fiery, with five red cards in the last five. Tuchel is unbeaten away from home in the Premier League (W6, D2) and desperately needs that form to continue here.

Aston Villa meet Chelsea having previously lost 10 of their last 12 Premier League meetings with Chelsea (W1, D1), though they did get a draw in the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge this season. Moreover, Chelsea have won their last three Premier League away games against Aston Villa. Also, Chelsea are unbeaten in each of their eight away league games under Thomas Tuchel (W6, D2), conceding just four goals in total and never more than once in a match.
Chelsea are favourites here but Aston Villa do not look in the mood to surrender tamely on home turf. This is another potential banana skin for Chelsea and BettingKick’s Aston Villa vs Chelsea prediction is: Both teams to score

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
