ASTON VILLA VS CRYSTAL PALACE MATCH ANALYSIS
Villa, got off to a fantastic start, having won their first four league matches, but have wavered a bit in their next five matches that saw four defeats. However, they bounced back with two away wins – 0-2 win at the Moulinex and 0-3 at West Bromwich – and an entertaining goalless draw against Burnley at home. They have picked up 22 points and are 9th in the standings with two games in hand. The visitors are in 13th place in the table with 18 points after a 7-0 drubbing by Liverpool at the weekend. On the other hand, they were unbeaten in three games (W1, D2) before Saturday and will probably settle for a draw at Villa.
Aston Villa suffered a dip in their form through late October and November (W1, L4), with the team experiencing all sorts of defensive problems in three straight home defeats - to Leeds (0-3), Southampton (3-4), and Brighton (1-2). Villa were deservedly second-best in those games, unable to compete with the visitors' intensity and energy. But after their postponed match against Newcastle due to a coronavirus outbreak, they had a week’s rest and came back strong with three wins and three clean sheets.
As for their West Brom win on Saturday, they spoiled West Brom’s manager Sam Allardyce's debut as they brushed aside the ten-man Baggies. Anwar El Ghazi's close-range finish gave Villa an early lead in a West Midlands derby that was one-sided even before Baggies captain Jake Livermore's sent-off. They sealed the points with two goals in the closing stages, Bertrand Traore's strike, and successfully converted penalty by El Ghazi for the Dutchman's second.
As for Crystal Palace, the honeymoon at the start of the campaign was over for the Eagles before they could have reveled in it for too long. After two initial wins, they continued with the see-saw results and were more often blowing cold than hot. However, Roy Hodgson managed to steady the ship and win convincingly at West Bromwich three weekends ago (1-5), and get the back-to-back 1-1 draws against the Spurs and another London rivals, West Ham. That was before they got demolished at Selhurst Park by the Reds.
On Saturday, Firmino (2), Salah (2), Minamino, Mane, and Jordan Henderson were all on the scoresheet as the champions overwhelmed Roy Hodgson's side with a stunning away performance. As the scoresheet suggests the Eagles were mostly stale and uninspiring. They could not cope with Liverpool’s waves of attack and failed to deal with the pace of the visitors' attacking options. They will certainly want to put the nightmarish performance to bed against Villa but will have to be extra cautious as they face another fast-paced team.

Both sides have won 4 matches from their 10 head-to-head clashes. The meetings between these two teams don’t usually see plenty of goals with Villa scoring 1 and Palace measly 0.8 on average.
Villa's return of 22 points after 12 games is their best in the Premier League since the 2001-02 season and Dean Smith's team look transformed from the one that barely stayed up on the final day in July. The goals may have dried up a bit in recent weeks for Villa, but if Traore and Grealish continue to produce displays seen at The Hawthorns, Roy Hodgson’s Palace will find themselves in trouble.
On the other hand, the south London side will get the underdogs tag ahead of this match, but Palace are well capable of surprising anybody on a good day. After his sending-off against West Ham Benteke will miss this game, but Hodgson can still count on a dangerous trio of Zaha, Ayew, and Eze to trouble Villa defense, while he awaits the news on centre-back Garry Cahil’s fitness. It would be hardly surprising if the Eagles get something from this game, but to get the maximum three points could prove too much.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
