Aston Villa host Wolves at the Villa Park (Birmingham) in the 27th round of the Premier League and the match kicks off at 5.30 pm (UK) on Saturday, March 6. Read our reasons for Aston Villa vs Wolves prediction and betting tips.
Villa’s last five matches have either been settled by the odd goal or ended in a stalemate. Dean Smith’s side did well to beat Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road but then went down by the same scoreline at Sheffield United on Wednesday. The loss against the top flight's bottom side has dented their hopes for a finish in the European places at the end of the season, but they are still in the race with 11 games remaining. As for Wolves, the Wanderers predictably saw a good run of results come to an end when beaten 4-1 at Man City last time out, but they were far from disgraced at the Etihad. They were unbeaten in five league games (W3, D2) prior to last weekend’s loss and sit in 12th place ahead of their trip to Birmingham.
Bearing in mind that Villa narrowly escaped relegation on the final day of last season, their second year in the Premier League has been an impressive campaign. The Villans currently sit 9th in the Premier League and are presently level on points with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham. Taking into consideration the dramatic improvement from last year, Villa fans have plenty to shout about. However, a growing concern at Villa Park is the side’s inability to climb their way back into games and salvage a result.
Smith’s team have recorded just a single point from games when they've gone behind this season, the worst return of any Premier League side. In comparison, in the 13 games where Villa have scored the opening goal, they've gone on to win 12 of those fixtures. We saw it happening again at Sheffield and by solving this issue between now and the end of the season, it could help Villa make that final leap to help secure a Europa League place.
Meanwhile, Wolves fans probably don’t have to worry about the threat of relegation – but we don’t think that’s really the point. Notwithstanding a season-ending injury to their main man Jimenez, they’ve gone from UEFA Europa League quarter-finalists to a team that just can’t inspire any kind of creative or attacking football. It’s a sorry state of affairs, which raises questions about the future of Nuno Espirito Santo as manager.
Recently, however, winning has been a bit more frequent for Wolves lately after success against Arsenal, Southampton, and Leeds to go alongside a dull draw against Leicester. Alas, the loss to Man City last weekend and a drab 1-1 draw at Newcastle earlier served as a reminder of how far this team still has to go in order to reach their former glories. The recent return of wing backs Jonny, Rayan Ait-Nouri, and Marcal, too boost, should galvanize the side and give Nuno some badly needed options.

Aston Villa meet Wolves having won just one of their last six home league games against Wolves (D3, L2), after winning six of their seven prior to that (L1). They are looking to secure their first league double over Wolves since the 2003-04 campaign, following their 1-0 win at Molineux back in December.
Having in mind Villa’s record when they concede first this should be a perfect match-up for the hosts as Wolves have opened the scoring in just one of their last 17 league games, doing so in their 1-0 victory against Leeds last month.

Tucker grew up in London, more precisely in West London. But, unlike many locals, he doesn’t like big and famous teams from that part of the city. Instead, ever since he was a kid, Tucker was passionate for lower divisions. This passion was born when his uncle from Reading took him to the local derby with Aldershot Town when he was 6 and since that moment football was running through his veins. He became a huge fan of the Royals for life, and whenever he could, he goes to Madejski Stadium to enjoy the game. Apart from being a job, his sports knowledge also becomes more than useful when he is betting live on high stakes which is also his passion.
