Derby of the seventh round in Seria A comes on Sunday, Atalanta host Inter in the duel of the last season's third and second-placed team in the standings.
Despite suffering consecutive slip-ups against Napoli and Sampdoria, Atalanta sits only four points off the top of the table. Given the patchy form of heavy-hitters Juventus and Inter, the title is theirs for the taking if they can recapture the consistency that they displayed this past summer. Although the 5-0 beatdown at the hands of Liverpool was historic for all the wrong reasons, La Dea can still recover in Europe. They can take heart from last season’s group stage campaign, which saw them rise from the dead to qualify for the Round of 16. This blowout will sting, but the Bergamo boys have the necessary mental fortitude to come back even stronger. It may not be easy after such an embarrassing defeat, but Atalanta must keep things in perspective.
Atalanta earned three points last time they played in Seria A. Luis Muriel ensured Atalanta got back on track with an early brace, as they beat Crotone 2-1, but the hosts will rue missed opportunities. The Colombia international only played 45 minutes but made a big impact. Nwankwo Simy, who was Serie B Capocannoniere last season, got Crotone back into it before half-time. Crotone will regret a huge opportunity that Junior Messias missed when one-on-one with Marco Sportiello, especially as it was a gift of a backpass from Johan Mojica.
Marten De Roon, Robin Gosens, Hans Hateboer, and Cristian Romero did not train with the rest of the team. Coach Gian Piero Gasperini continues to prepare for the match against Inter in Bergamo and the injury report means some key players could miss out on the big match. The match between last season’s third and second in Serie A is the derby of the round and Atalanta will probably be without four regular starters who had individual tasks during the training session and are more than uncertain ahead of the clash at the Gewiss Stadium.
The Nerazzurri have struggled in recent weeks and have only one win in seven games ahead of the big game vs Atalanta. Italian media have mixed feelings about coach Antonio Conte after Inter’s 3-2 away defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League and the shaky start of the season in the domestic league. The Nerazzurri recovered from two goals down but still returned empty-handed to Milan, as a Rodrygo goal after 80 minutes gave Real Madrid the lead and eventually the victory. Inter sit last in the group stage with two points in three games and coach Conte has been in the spotlight as media and Inter fans expect the Nerazzurri to at least qualify for the last-16 stage of the competition.
Without a center forward presence because of Lukaku injury and practically Sanchez as well, his Inter side keeps the promise of playing offensive football. Inter create so much but at the same time, they commit so many mistakes. Now the situation in the group becomes complicated and lack of confidence could be a major problem because the situation in Seria A is not promising regarding the quest for the title. If they continue to defend like this, both Conte and Inter will not go far.
Romelu Lukaku reportedly works hard to make it in time for the match against Atalanta. The Belgian striker, who has missed the last two matches for the Nerazzurri, suffered a muscle strain against Shakhtar Donetsk. After missing out against Parma and Real Madrid, he has stepped up his training to speed up the recovery, trained on his own at the training center, when the rest of the team had free time. Inter’s medical staff are preparing for a decisive test before the game. Lautaro Martinez stepped up with a goal and an assist in Lukaku’s absence against Real Madrid, but Inter is desperate to have the striker back as soon as possible.

Top of the table clash that could decide team paths in the period after the international break. Three points will be crucial for lowering pressure and the eventual draw will be more like losing two points than earning one. Both teams to score is by far the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
