Atalanta and Juventus are chasing a top-four finish with just one point dividing the two sides in the Serie A table. Read our reasons for Atalanta vs Juventus prediction and betting tips.
Atalanta won the last game against Juventus 20 years ago. The Old Lady collected 24 wins out of 32 games since but picked up six draws in the last eight matches. Gian Piero Gasperini believes it is time to change that awful stat as the race for the top four will ‘go down to the wire’ after a 3-2 thriller at Fiorentina, explaining Atalanta’s tactical adjustments. ‘They barely need me now.’ La Dea needed the victory to keep the fourth place, like Milan, Juventus, Napoli, Lazio, and Roma all won this weekend, but it was harder than expected at the Stadio Franchi. That’s because Dusan Vlahovic’s brace allowed the Viola to come back from 2-0 down, but also Atalanta wasted numerous opportunities to further extend their lead. Josip Ilicic’s penalty proved to be enough after the Duvan Zapata first-half double. “It was a difficult evening, as everyone won and we were the only ones left. We ran a lot of risks, we almost didn’t win, but these are three fundamental points, as essentially the table remains what it was this morning and there’s one round less to play. Now we go into a pretty remarkable week,” the coach told the media.
There’s a fascinating showdown between Atalanta and Juventus, who are separated by just one point, but Cristian Romero will be suspended. “It’s not the first time we’ve left the game open, but we did score three goals. Duvan Zapata told me when coming off he should’ve had five today! Fiorentina pushed hard, they were very aggressive and determined. We did well to resume creating chances and scoring goals after we were pulled back for 2-2.” Gasperini was always known for using a three-man defense, yet over the last couple of games, Atalanta switched to four. “It’s because of the personnel we have at our disposal and the opponents we are facing. You’ll see we will return to three at the back soon. It’s not even that much of a difference, as we usually move a defender up into midfield. We created several versions of the system over time and we can count on them at different times of the game. We have a lot of options in attack and that allows us to play this way at certain points of the season. Our midfielders Remo Freuler and Marten de Roon are also exceptional in their tactical intelligence. I’ve said that I don’t even need to be there now, I can sit in the stands and they all know the tactics so well that they can go on autopilot. They know when to press, when to switch from one approach to the next, they hardly need me at all.”
Atalanta (4-2-3-1): Gollini; Toloi, Palomino, Djimsiti, Gosens; De Roon, Freuler; Malinovskyi, Pasalic, Muriel; Zapata

Injured: Hateboer
Andrea Pirlo gives himself ‘six out of 10’ for his debut Juventus season and admits his style of football has not been ‘fully implemented' yet. The Bianconeri beat Genoa 3-1, but yet again they seemed a very different team after the break and risked throwing away the 2-0 lead. “We had the right attitude at the start, it all seemed easy, then we allowed a chance at the end of the first half due to a lack of concentration,” Pirlo told the media. “It’s happened before that we concede goals either side of the half and it almost happened again. We came out wanting to take the initiative, but we went too deep, ran a few risks, and didn’t take the chances that would’ve allowed us to be a bit more relaxed.”
Cristiano Ronaldo was visibly annoyed after the final whistle and threw his shirt to the ground. “It’s normal he wanted to score a goal, especially when the game was getting complicated, as he is a champion and always wants to make his mark. Genoa put a lot of players between the lines, so we considered a change of tactics during the game. Unfortunately, we dropped points in games that on paper seemed easier, which made life complicated unnecessarily. That wasn’t the case today, as we were controlling the match, but there were a few distractions that made us run some risks.”
Pirlo was asked if he still feels that he has to prove himself on the Juventus bench and how he would judge his debut campaign. “All coaches must feel like they have to prove themselves every single day, let alone me, as I am in my first coaching experience. Football has been my dream since I was a child and I will keep working hard to improve. I’d give myself a six out of 10 for this season so far. I know that I must do more, and when I don’t achieve certain results, the coach is the first to take responsibility. My idea of football is to dominate the game and press the opposition. For a series of reasons, we’ve been unable to fully implement it, but the team is eager and we’ll keep working on it.”
Juventus (4-4-2): Szczesny; Cuadrado, De Ligt, Bonucci, Danilo; Kulusevski, Bentancur, Arthur, Chiesa; Ronaldo, Morata
Suspended: none

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
