Atalanta won against Liverpool but to stay in touch with Reds and Ajax in the battle for places in the knockout stage must win vs Midtjylland on Tuesday.
A famous win on Anfield got Atalanta's Champions League Group D campaign back on track, but the Italian side must follow that up at home against eliminated Midtjylland if they are to progress to the last 16. Gasperini’s team are level on seven points with Ajax in third place in Group D, and consider this a must-win, with Midtjylland out of the fight for the next stage with zero points, four losses after four games. Atalanta defeated Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield, with Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens finding the net for La Dea. That win raised confidence among the team, but the match in Seria A against Hellas Verona showed they need much more time to find their form from the last season.
Atalanta dominated proceedings for an hour but paid the price for failing to take their chances, as Hellas Verona ran out 2-0 winners. Josip Ilicic, Duvan Zapata, and Remo Freuler were made to regret wasted opportunities when Miguel Veloso converted a penalty. Mattia Zaccagni then sealed the result with a very well-taken goal, especially the first touch off the outside of the boot to control the Veloso assist. Veloso also rattled the woodwork and Marco Silvestri performed late heroics in Bergamo.
Defender Mattia Caldara is likely to be sidelined until the turn of the year as he recovers from knee surgery. Goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini made his first appearance this season at Spezia after recovering from a knee injury, but he limped off midway through the second half of Saturday's defeat to Verona with a similar problem. Fabio Depaoli and Mario Pasalic have both been out since the Spezia game, midfielders Aleksei Miranchuk and Ruslan Malinovskyi are self-isolating.
Atalanta (3-4-1-2): Marco Sportiello (GK); Jose Luis Palomino, Cristian Romero, Rafael Toloi; Hans Hateboer, Matteo Pessina, Martin de Roon, Johan Mojica; Alejandro Gomez; Josip Ilicic, Luis Muriel
After the 4-0 defeat against Atalanta - their heaviest European at home - Brian Priske's side lost 2-0 at Liverpool and both home and away against Ajax. Danish champions have won only three of their last 12 European games, with all three victories coming in qualifying this season. As one of four teams making their group stage debut in 2020-21 alongside Krasnodar, Rennes, and Istanbul Basaksehir, they are the only team of the quartet yet to pick up a point. To be realistic, just reaching this stage has is a triumph in itself for the club founded just two decades ago. Domestic champions for the third time last season, they are the first club from Denmark to reach the group phase since FC Copenhagen in 2016-17.
Brian Priske will be unable to call upon captain Erik Sviatchenko, after the center-back's late red card against Ajax in the previous round. Midfielders Evander and Jens Cajuste are also unavailable due to the coronavirus.
Midtjylland (4-3-3): Jesper Hansen (GK); Dion Cools, Manjrekar James, Alexander Scholz, Paulinho; Mikael Anderson, Nicolas Madsen, Frank Onyeka; Anders Dreyer, Sory Kaba, Pione Sisto

After the bright start, Atalanta is far away from performances and results from the last season. Despite that, they are the clear favorites for a big win here.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
