Atalanta and Napoli are waiting for a semi-finals rematch of the Coppa Italia following their goalless draw in last week's first leg, with the final at stake.
Gian Piero Gasperini admitted Atalanta ‘switched off’ when throwing away the 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Torino. ‘I think the underlying issue is fatigue.’ La Dea had been 3-0 up within 21 minutes thanks to Josip Ilicic, Robin Gosens, and Luis Muriel goals, but the Granata clawed it back to 3-2 by half-time and eventually equalized with a Federico Bonazzoli header. “Some players switched off, some didn’t, but the last 10 minutes of the first half it looked as if we had just stopped. Torino had four attempts before finally scoring the second goal,” the coach told media. “We arrived late from Naples (after the Coppa Italia semi-final midweek), some hadn’t fully recovered and we were a little limited. Hateboer is going to be difficult, but we hope to have Maehle back for the second leg with Napoli. It’s strange, we went 3-0 up after 21 minutes, and then our levels just dropped.”
Gasperini was asked if Atalanta is distracted by many important matches that will come in the upcoming weeks, as with Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16. “We are always using the same defenders and that can lead to fatigue in some areas of the team. There was a period where we conceded very few goals and it was difficult even to see chances against us. We made a lot of errors in situations that were easy enough to control. I honestly don’t know how it was 3-2 at half-time when Torino barely had a shot on target. That lifted Toro’s spirits, we were relatively in control of the second half, but then a set play can always make the difference when the result is open.”
Atalanta has many things to solve after the match with Torino, as both Joakim Maehle and Hans Hateboer are set to miss out on Wednesday. Cristian Romero is suspended, so Mattia Caldara and Jose Luis Palomino will compete for a place in Gian Piero Gasperini's three-man defense. Mario Pasalic is a strong candidate to play in support of striker Duvan Zapata, as Josip Ilicic and Ruslan Malinovskyi are at risk of being banned for the final due to the accumulation of bookings.
Atalanta: Gollini; Toloi, Palomino, Djimsiti; Ruggeri, de Roon, Freuler, Gosens; Pasalic, Ilicic; Zapata
Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso’s future at the Stadio Diego Maradona will reportedly be decided by the next two games against Atalanta and Juventus. The Partenopei lost their seventh game in the League against Genoa last weekend and President Aurelio De Laurentis will, according to media, evaluate Gattuso’s immediate future on Saturday. The former Milan coach will most certainly leave after the season, but De Laurentis has contacted his closest collaborators to take stock of the current situation. Gattuso’s immediate future will be discussed, as the patron doesn’t want to make any hasty decisions that would be dictated by the resentment of the current situation.
The President, beyond the results on the pitch, was not happy about the attacks directed at him by the coach and disagrees with some of the technical choices made by Gattuso. The report claims he has not been happy to see Nikola Maksimovic and Elseid Hysaj, who are on expiring contracts, play over Amir Rrahmani, who cost €13m and has struggled to convince the coach. Gattuso has even preferred to play Giovanni Di Lorenzo out of position when Rrahmani has been the only alternative. The patron already has some targets in mind and is an admirer of Hellas Verona coach Ivan Juric and Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano. Sassuolo coach Roberto De Zerbi is mentioned as an alternative too, but none of them will be able to arrive mid-season. Rafael Benitez or Walter Mazzarri is free to fill the hole for the remainder of the season, should he decide to part ways with Gattuso early.
Gennaro Gattuso is not expected to retain the three-man backline he employed in Naples as Kalidou Koulibaly is absent due to COVID-19. Amir Rrahmani and Nikola Maksimovic could get a call, given that Kostas Manolas is also out of action until the end of the month. Faouzi Ghoulam is ruled out, with Dries Mertens and Fabian Ruiz - just returned from self-isolation himself.
Napoli: Ospina; Di Lorenzo, Maksimovic, Rrahmani, Hysaj; Elmas, Bakayoko, Zielinski; Politano, Lozano, Insigne

Atalanta and Napoli showed many faces recently, with none of them consistent in their performances or form. Atalanta was far better in the first leg but after they lost three-goal advantage vs Torino it is unclear how you can be sure they will end the match properly. Both teams to score could be the most reasonable betting option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
