Atalanta will host Sampdoria on Saturday at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo after a great start of the season in the UCL and heavy defeat in Seria A vs Napoli from the last weekend.
Atalanta got right back on track in the Champions League midweek, but risk fatigue against a Sampdoria side that is fresh from humiliating Lazio. La Dea hopes that the 4-1 defeat to Napoli was just a blip, as they shook it off to immediately thump Midtjylland 4-0 in Denmark on Wednesday evening. Some squad rotation is expected, although Ruslan Malinovskyi is not at 100 percent.
Josip Ilicic made his comeback from the start vs Napoli, having not played since July 11 due to personal issues. But the game took the unpredicted turn from the start as Napoli took a deserved lead when Giovanni Di Lorenzo put a fine cross in from the right, beyond Victor Osimhen, but finding Lozano for the tap-in from five yards. Lozano also scored the second goal moments later. It was chaotic defending from Atalanta, as two defenders collided when trying to anticipate Osimhen, leaving a gap for Lozano to curl a perfect right-foot finish into the far bottom corner from just inside the area. The hosts added a third with Matteo Politano’s rocket, cutting inside from the right to unleash a scorcher into the near top corner.
Osimhen stung Marco Sportiello’s gloves at the near post, but the Nigerian got his first goal in the Napoli jersey thanks to another defensive error from Cristian Romero. On a David Ospina goal kick, Osimhen chested down the ball, turned, and hit it first time into the bottom corner from 20 meters. Sam Lammers came off the bench in the second half and made an immediate difference, threading his finish into the far bottom corner when sent clear by a splendid Romero run from midfield, riding two tackles. It woke Atalanta up but the game was over for any significant change.
Atalanta (3-4-1-2): Sportiello; Toloi, Romero, Palomino; Depaoli, De Roon, Freuler, Gosens; Gomez; Ilicic, Duvan Zapata
Suspended: None
Injured: Gollini, Caldara, Carnesecchi
Samp already achieved a couple of shock results by beating Lazio 3-0 and Fiorentina 2-1, so will be determined to add another scalp. Samp had the more aggressive start and it eventually paid off vs Lazio team that was missing suspended Ciro Immobile, injured Manuel Lazzari, Senad Lulic, Luiz Felipe, Bastos, Andreas Pereira, Gonzalo Escalante, and Stefan Radu.
Tommaso Augello whipped in a cross from the left to find a Fabio Quagliarella header into the far top corner. As splendid a finish as it was, the Lazio defending left him far too much room. Augello provided the assist and scored later as he shot from the edge of the box with the outside of his left foot into the bottom corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance.
Substitute Damsgaard made it 3-0 at the end, Quagliarella’s shot was saved by Strakosha, Patric fell asleep on the rebound and Damsgaard blasted it in off the underside of the bar. Strakosha kept the scoreline down with a sensational double save and the end, one-handed first on Damsgaard and then the Keita Balde Diao follow-up. Summer signing Keita Balde Diao is likely to get his first start partnering Fabio Quagliarella upfront as he could be rewarded for good training sessions in the previous weeks after suffering a positive coronavirus test.
Sampdoria (4-4-2): Audero; Bereszynski, Yoshida, Tonelli, Augello; Candreva, Thorsby, Ekdal, Jankto; Keita, Quagliarella
Suspended: None
Injured: Gabbiadini

Atalanta was on the wrong foot against Napoli but they showed maturity and class in Denmark vs Midtjylland. They are heavy favorites for another win with goals that should come from Zapata and Gomez.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
