Atalanta and Sassuolo are two of Serie A’s most exciting provincial clubs with coaches giving them clear identities and European ambitions.
Atalanta has seemingly adapted to life after Papu Gomez and he remains excluded from the squad, with Mario Pasalic also still injured, but Josip Ilicic recapturing past form. Atalanta patron Antonio Percassi closed the Papu Gomez case and looks ahead with La Dea. The Argentine forward is expected to leave in January following a row with coach Gian Piero Gasperini, as there seems to be no sign of the pair resolving their differences. He then went on to praise coach Gasperini, who has brought the club to the last 16 of the Champions League in back-to-back seasons, ‘Gian Piero Gasperini for life’.
Atalanta was guilty of resting on their laurels after a quick Luis Muriel brace, as Takehiro Tomiyasu and Neuhen Paz completed the Bologna comeback. Muriel got a rare start and proved he’s more than just a supersub, as he converted a penalty won by Josip Ilicic and then added a second barely a minute later by squirming between defenders. After wasting several opportunities to extend their lead, Atalanta was caught out by the Bologna comeback. Riccardo Orsolini provided the assist for Tomiyasu’s dinked finish, then won the corner from which Paz scored the equalizer.
Atalanta (3-4-1-2): Gollini; Djimsiti, Romero, Palomino; Hateboer, De Roon, Freuler, Gosens; Pessina, Ilicic; Duvan Zapata
Suspended: None
Injured: Caldara, Pasalic
On a yellow card: Toloi, Romero, Djimsiti
Sassuolo got back on track with a 3-2 win at Sampdoria, proving the importance of Francesco Caputo to their attacking capabilities. The Neroverdi made an immediate impact with Hamed Junior Traore, then just as Fabio Quagliarella had equalized, Ciccio Caputo and Domenico Berardi struck twice in quick succession. Keita Balde Diao came off the bench and bagged his first Sampdoria goal, but was also then sent off.
Sassuolo wants to bring in a good midfielder in this transfer window but they don’t have money for compensation and wages so they want €25m for loanee Gianluca Scamacca, who has been targeted by League leaders Milan. The center-forward has spent the first half of 2020-21 on loan at Genoa and the Rossoneri are reportedly interested in the young Italian. Also, Genoa would want adequate compensation to let the 21-year-old leave midways into the 2020-21 season. Scamacca has scored two goals in 11 Serie A games with the Grifone, as he returned from a successful spell on loan at Ascoli the last term. The young attacker’s contract expires in June 2023 and he has played three times for Sassuolo so far in his career.
Sassuolo (4-2-3-1): Consigli; Toljan, Chiriches, Ferrari, Kyriakopoulos; Locatelli, Obiang; Berardi, Djuricic, Boga; Caputo
Suspended: None
Injured: Romagna, Rogerio, Ricci
On a yellow card: Berardi

Sassuolo has lost each of their last six Serie A games against Atalanta, conceding 22 goals in the process. Both teams to score looks like a sure bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
