Atalanta is back in business after their prestigious Champions League win at Anfield, but Gian Piero Gasperini faces his student Ivan Juric’s Verona on Saturday.
La Dea was able to celebrate the historic 2-0 victory away to Liverpool, including Josip Ilicic’s first goal of the season, using a 3-5-2 formation without genuine strikers. That won’t be the case here, so Duvan Zapata or Luis Muriel, perhaps even both, are set to start up front against a Verona side who play very similar football.
Atalanta took revenge for their home defeat by earning a historic and fully-deserved 2-0 victory at Anfield, beating Liverpool with Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens goals. Atalanta had by far the better of the first half and passed it around well, without a doubt an improvement on the Bergamo defeat. Papu Gomez tested Alisson again after the restart, and the former Roma goalkeeper had to rush off his line to capture a Gomez through ball off the feet of Ilicic. The pressure finally paid off with a well-deserved goal for Atalanta, as Gomez floated the ball over the top from the left and Ilicic came sliding in for a low volley from close range. La Dea doubled their lead soon after with a trademark goal, as Hans Hateboer nodded down another Gomez cross at the back post for Robin Gosens on the volley from six yards relatively undisturbed. It was the first time Liverpool had been 2-0 down at Anfield in the Champions League since October 2014. Pierluigi Gollini didn’t have a single save to make, and Atalanta continued to press for more goals, Duvan Zapata firing over the bar.

Ivan Juric was Gasperini’s player and then an assistant at Genoa. They were both tight games last season, Atalanta winning 3-2 and then drawing 1-1 at the Bentegodi. Hellas lost last weekend to Sassuolo, but only after hitting the woodwork an incredible four times. They also had a controversial Coppa Italia defeat to Cagliari on Wednesday.
Riccardo Sottil scored deep into stoppages to give Cagliari the 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona, so they’ll face Atalanta next in the Coppa Italia. Alberto Cerri, opened the scoring when Sottil burst down the right and somehow kept the ball in to provide a perfect assist. Verona was furious on 62 minutes when Eddie Salcedo had a goal controversially disallowed for a push on Cerri. Ebrima Colley got Verona back on track in the second half with his tap-in on the Salcedo lay-off. Just as it looked as if extra time was inevitable, Sottil snatched the winner for Cagliari at the 93rd minute, pouncing on a poorly-cleared corner.
Verona (3-4-2-1): Silvestri; Cetin, Ceccherini, Magnani; E Colley, Tameze, Ilic, Dimarco; Barak, Zaccagni; Di Carmine
Suspended: None
Injured: Kalinic, Ruegg, Faraoni, Gunter, Lovato, Lazovic, Vieira, Benassi, Favilli

Atalanta failed to find consistency in the new season and Verona was heavily punished against Sassuolo, they lost the game in which they hit the rim of the goal four times. Both teams to score most be the most reasonable bet.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
