Athletic Bilbao go up against Cadiz in La Liga on Thursday evening looking to build on their narrow triumph over Eibar at the weekend.
Estadio San Mames will host Thursday’s football match between Athletic Club and Cadiz. The Lions quickly bounced back from a 2-0 loss to Granada, with the team beating Eibar in the Basque derby at the weekend. Athletic Club aim to keep on climbing the standings, and they are likely to go all guns blazing at el Submarino Amarillo.
The Basques are a real force to be reckoned with at home, but they will have to prove their worth on the field. Athletic, meanwhile, opened their new season with a 2-0 defeat at Granada on September 12 and have been in action since only once, against Eibar in which they won on the away. It was a desperately disappointing finish to last season for the Basque outfit, who lost four of their last five league outings to drop down the table, ultimately finishing in 11th position. Restricted to signing Basque-only players, it has been a very quiet transfer window the club. As a result, it is difficult to imagine them pushing towards the European places this season, even considering the talent that they can call upon in the final third of the field. Gaizka Garitano's side have a winnable run of matches ahead, though, as their next 3 after Cadiz are against Alaves, Levante and Osasuna before a tough examination at home to Sevilla at the end of October.
The newcomers, on the other hand, have been having their ups and downs at the start of the season. Following a 2-0 win over Huesca, Cadiz experienced all sorts of problems in a 3-1 loss to Sevilla on Matchday 4, and seeing that they often struggle on the travels, we believe that punters can find value in betting on the Lions. Cadiz secured a return to La Liga for the current season courtesy of finishing second behind Huesca in the Segunda Division last term.
The Yellow Submarine were actually regulars at this level between 1981 and 1993 but have largely been a second or third-tier side since, only playing one campaign in La Liga since the 1992-93 season. Cadiz made a disappointing start to life back in the top flight, suffering a 2-0 defeat at home to Osasuna.

Despite the contrasting sizes of the two clubs, we expect this to be a tight contest. However, while Cadiz could push their more illustrious opponents all the way, we feel that Garitano's side will ultimately prevail on Thursday night.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
