Second-placed Augsburg with the Bundesliga's best defense will host league leaders RB Leipzig on Saturday at the top of the table derby of the 4th round.
Despite avoiding relegation last season, Augsburg is off to a flying start this time around. Victories over Union Berlin and Borussia Dortmund coupled with a draw away to Wolfsburg left them level on seven points with league leaders Leipzig. Augsburg is enjoying their best-ever start to a Bundesliga season. They have never been unbeaten after three rounds of fixtures, and sit second in the table for the first time in their top-flight history. A strong backline has been the key to the team's resurgence, and they have kept back-to-back clean sheets after conceding their first and only goal of 2020/21 so far on Matchday 1. Augsburg goalkeeper Rafal Gikiewicz has saved a league-high 15 of the 16 shots he has faced (94 percent), while one goal conceded is a best-mark shared with Wolfsburg. Florian Niederlechner should get the nod upfront as fellow forward Alfred Finnbogason is a doubt with a thigh strain, while head coach Heiko Herrlich will be back on the touchline after recovering from a collapsed lung that forced him to miss the goalless stalemate in Wolfsburg last time out. Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious.
