Augsburg will try to stop a dynamic VfB Stuttgart team on Sunday in a battle of two very different playing styles.
Each of Augsburg's last two goals in the Bundesliga has been scored by defenders and that suggests that Augsburg is strong at the set-pieces and with the very modest options in the attack. They scored their ninth goal of the season in the final 15 minutes of a game last time out against Koln, matching the league-wide record alongside Stuttgart and Bayern Munich. Ruben Vargas got the attention in the new season, he has featured in all but one of Augsburg's games and is second in their scoring chart on three goals, behind his partner on the opposite wing, Daniel Caligiuri (four). The 22-year-old Switzerland international started last week's win at Koln in a more advanced position on the left, but it was wing-back Iago behind him who got the only goal of the game as Heiko Herrlich's side moved up to 10th - ahead of Stuttgart.
Augsburg has developed a stable line-up but is forced into one change with captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw suspended. It should see Stuttgart native and VfB youth product Rani Khedira cover in the back three. Ecuadorian Carlos Gruezo, who also made his Bundesliga bow with Stuttgart, is set to continue alongside Tobias Strobl in central midfield.
Augsburg: Gikiewicz - Oxford, Khedira, Uduokhai - Caligiuri (c), Strobl, Gruezo, Iago - Richter, Vargas - Niederlechner
Out: Bazee (knee), Finnbogason (muscular), Gouweleeuw (suspended), Framberger (muscular), Jensen (ankle), Moravek (thigh)
Doubtful: -
Coach: Heiko Herrlich
Stuttgart's 1-0 defeat at home to RB Leipzig saw them drop four places and one below Augsburg ahead of their Matchday 15 meeting. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel - a former FCA player - was their star performer that day, saving eight shots, including a penalty, for some major Fantasy points. Only Bayer Leverkusen (17) and Bayern (16) have collected more points away from home this season than promoted Stuttgart (14), celebrating each of their four wins this campaign on the road.
Gonzalez and fellow striker Sasa Kalajdzic started together upfront for the first time in the Bundesliga, and coach Pellegrino Matarazzo looks set to maintain his attacking approach again. If not, the dangerous Tanguy Coulibaly will likely be restored. Arsenal loanee Konstantinos Mavropanos is also in line to start in the three-man backline in place of Pascal Stenzel.
Stuttgart: Kobel - Mavropanos, Anton, Kempf - Silas, Endo, Mangala, Sosa - Castro (c), Gonzalez - Kalajdzic
Out: Al Ghaddioui (pelvis), Mola (hip), Thommy (elbow)
Doubtful: Didavi (flu)
Coach: Pellegrino Matarazzo

It could be a cagey affair with both teams trying to exploit something from their playing styles. Augsburg will wait for their chance from the set-pieces and counters, but Stuttgart has better attacking options and flair to cause more problems. Away win is our value betting option here.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
